If you try, you can trace the dance form called ‘tutting’ back to the 1970s. Since then, we’ve been seeing quite a bit of it here and there – like a popular Samsung ad in 2011. However, this dance form started gaining popularity late last year, and now it’s definitely one you need to be looking into! Tutting is actually a style of hip-hop dancing, which involves popping your arms at perpendicular angles according to the beat of the song you’re dancing to. Have a look at some of these videos to get an idea of what it’s like, in case you’re not yet familiar.

There’s also finger tutting, which involves the use of mostly your fingers (as opposed to your entire arms), and as you can see, the effects are really quite cool:

Tutting is usually done to funk & soul, hip-hop and pop music, but I’d love to see some to Bollywood music! I did manage to come across this lyrical tutting video, to Farhan Akhtar‘s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara poetry. You should definitely check it out:

And then last year, on India’s Dancing Superstar, a contestant (Abhishek Thewar) did finger tutting to Chokra Jawaan (which is kind of awesome!):

But are you wondering where it all started from? Tutting is said to have originated from Mark Benson (“King Bungaloo Tut”). Check out the video:

What do you think? Do you like tutting? Is it something you would love to learn? And, most importantly… which Bollywood songs would you love to see someone tut to? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
