The sixth edition of Tarun Tahiliani‘s Bridal Couture Exposition wound up today and was an exceptional affair. The two day exhibit comes to the city every year and manages to inspire, amaze and captivate those who attend. Tarun Tahiliani also held a cocktail evening to celebrate yet another successful exhibit. At MissMalini, the fashion team decided to attend together – all set to be wowed.  Here are 5 things we loved from last evening.

1. When we entered, we were prepared to observe all the beautiful creations put up and try to understand what made them so special. But Tarun Tahiliani didn’t leave us to fend for ourselves; he personally took us on a mini tour of the exhibit and explained the ideas, details and inspirations for all the garments on display.

2. We know how the men have it easy when it comes to traditional wear. They don’t face the constant battle between style and comfort like the women do. Tarun Tahiliani’s menswear collection moved away from the usual blacks, blues and greys and threw in some gold, deep oranges and pistachio shades. Included with the colours were unexpected drapes clasped to the neck and ornate embroidered belts over pre-stitched dhotis and jodhpurs.

3. Bridal wear was made easy for the women. With smart and light fabrics like sheer silks and reshams the easy to wear drapes came in forms of pre-stitched duppatas and pleats leaving the hands free with the fit, finish and functionality of western clothing.

4. At a bridal exposition, you’d mostly expect only lehengas, saris and salwar suits – Not the case at Tarun Tahiliani’s expo. While the collection might mostly be for a bride and her family it didn’t leave out the occasional embroidered tulle dress and a bronze trellis jacket that was the pièce de résistance of the collection.

5. The collection was rightly titled ‘The Modern Mughals’. Why? Mughals because of its traditionalistic nature and modern because a number of ensembles came with wide obi belts, waistcoats and in some cases even feathers.

In today’s world where a mix of traditional and functionality is sought after, Tarun Tahiliani’s Couture Exposition delivers exactly that in the most royally fitting way a person could imagine.

If you didn’t manage to catch it in Mumbai over these two days, it’s going to move to New Delhi between the 2nd- 4th August 2014 at The Couture Studio, Chattarpur.
