Lisbon truly has it all: sun, sea and an enchanting atmosphere! Sited on a series of hills running down the grand Tagus River, Lisbon tops my list of one of the world’s most scenic cities. Be ready to be mesmerized at every turn down its colourful, picturesque streets. The city is overlooked by the gargantuan Caste of St. George. Do check out the viewpoints at the top of each hill for the best view of its pastel-colored buildings.

Barcelona is a city that combines both the old and new so effortlessly. With beautiful museums, great food and Gaudi architecture, it is also the perfect beach city where the party never ends! Split into two by the Danube River, you have the Buda Hills to the west and the Great Plains to the east. Buda, the hill with the royal palace is filled with gothic monuments and neo-renaissance buildings. With its stunning Parliament Building and monumental Chain Bridge, Budapest is surrounded by beautiful landscapes on all sides. You didn’t think we’d forget Cape Town, did you? This marvelous destination is surrounded by the vast seas and pristine beaches on one side, and a visually stunning mountain range on the other! You can call me biased here but this had to be on the list! The Greek island of Santorini is extremely famous for its picturesque white and blue homes cascading down to the sea. This is what postcards are made of! Santorini is reputed to have the best sunsets in the world, making it the perfect spot for a post-summer break. This island is also known for its wine, so, be sure to do some wine tasting whilst your stay here. Need I say more? This place is just magical!

#10 Bagan, Myanmar

If Santorini is known to have the best sunsets in the world, this ancient city of Bagan is touted to have the world’s best sunrise. Bagan in central Burma is one of the world’s greatest archeological sites. You’ll get a glimpse of the Buddhist culture with its innumerous temples that were built by the kings of Bagan. Tall men dressed in ankle length “lungis” and women’s faces brushed with yellow “thanaka” paste make the Burmese a visually striking bunch. Not extremely famous a while ago, this city is soon becoming a tourist destination! The best time to visit is between November and February.
