Nowadays, most of us prefer to click a #selfie and post it on social media. The #selfie has created a buzz among the old and young and become quite the phenomenon. So, it’s only right that we should know the etymology of the selfie. BuzzFeed has created this subtly humorous video on the word that has got everyone in a dizzy. Here’s what we learnt:

1. Selfies are mostly meant for sharing
2. Taking a selfie requires commitment
3. The term itself was coined in 2002 in Australia
4. The hashtag and word were used for the first time on Instagram
5. Women take way more selfies than men
6. People tend to tilt their heads when taking a selfie
7. Selfie was the Oxford English Dictionary’s Word of the Year in 2013

We know our Bollywood divas love taking selfies and we’ve even caught some co-stars in the selfe-taking act. So, tell us which is your favourite celebrity selfie. Did you know all of these facts and how many are you guilty of? Tell us in the comments below while I go take a selfie. 😉
