Brace yourselves, vacations are coming and it will be rather sad if you didn’t use the free time to do something fun! By fun, I mean just one thing… traveling! 1) Go for the dancing!
Chicago has become the modern dance mecca with companies like AXIS Dance, Alvin Ailey and the American Ballet Theatre making regular return performances every year. Ballet is not only limited to white tights and tutus (I know you think about Black Swan when anyone mentions ballet just like I do ) but the Joffrey Ballet will thrill you with its mixture of classical ballet and exciting new work that the world has never seen. In fact, the Joffrey was the first company to bring acid rock to ballet. Can you imagine that? A trippy ballet performance? Wow!
2) Go for the museums!

Chicago also has The Chicago Children’s Museum where over 15 interactive exhibits and daily programs make maths, science, reading, the arts and the city’s vibrant cultures come alive for kids and parents alike!
3) Go for the architecture!
Chicago is known worldwide for its magnificent architecture! The Chicago Water Tower, Wrigley Building, Merchandise Mart, Willis Tower, Trump Tower, John Hancock Building, Marina Towers, and the Aqua building are all known as architectural perfections. The common link between them is this wonderful city! Try to control that urge to use your camera everywhere while you’re traveling, because your memory card is guaranteed to fill up quickly within a short span of time!
4) Go for the freebies!
Yep! Chicago has a lot of free attractions one can check out when all you have is a few dollars and a week of your vacation left! This includes places like the Chicago Cultural Centre and free public parks that cover over 8,000 acres of Chicago. Many of these feature wildlife havens like the Northerly Island and North Pond Nature Sanctuary. City Gallery, at the historic Water Tower, and (for bookworms like me) The Harold Washington Library Centre which is one of the largest public libraries in the world are also free of charge! The library houses more than 13 million published works. I’d book a ticket for this reason only!
5) Go for the food!
Chicago has food tours! A lot of food tours! For example, Chicago Food Planet Food Tours offers a three hour food tasting and cultural walking tour that specializes in combining delicious food and drink tastings with some serious fun in Chicago’s most delicious, off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods. There is also Tastebud Tours which specializes in offering deep dish pizza, Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef. Not exciting enough? Well for our desis, they also have a Spice of Life Tours.
