Now, that’s a clash that would make a lot of noise if it materializes. Come 13th February, the father-son duo of Rishi and Ranbir Kapoor would be taking on each other at the box office. While RK Jr.’s Roy has been slated for release on the said date for quite some time now, even RK Sr’s tentatively titled Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi has been announced for the same date.

A source says:

“The film features Rishi Kapoor as a Punjabi and Paresh Rawal as a Gujarati. It is a family comedy with Vir Das as the young central protagonist. The Sanjay Chhel film was announced a little while ago and since it deals with the subject of marriage, it was felt that release on the weekend of Valentine’s Day would be most appropriate.”

However, this would also mean that the Kapoor family would find itself in a ring. Though Ranbir’s Roy has been pushed ahead, for now the release date stands at 13th February. It has been a surprise development to see the makers of Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi choose the same date.

A trade insider says:

“News of this clash would certainly make for a good PR drive as it has never happened before that a father and son have taken on each other at the box office. Whether it is Bachchans or Deols, there has never been any history of such a clash. One of the two films would certainly have to move ahead and if Roy is ready by that time, it should be the one to make a final cut as it was announced first.”

In any case, the date was turning out to be overcrowded as Detective Byomkesh Bakshy was the first to pick this one.

“Moreover, the Sushant Singh Rajput film is the first to have its teaser been unveiled,” the insider adds, “Yash Raj Films are hardly known to change their dates after beginning the promotion and since this means that the Dibakar Banerji directed film is most definitely arriving on 13th February, there can be space for only one more – Roy or Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi.”

Now, these developments will certainly be closely observed!
