Ajay and Sonakshi

Celebrity interviews is not something I do often, which is why I was a bundle of nerves when my first interview as a blogger at MissMalini was with Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha! I mean, imagine interacting with legit superstars the first time you get to talk to someone in Bollywood. Anyway, enough rambling – both the stars of the upcoming entertainer Action Jackson were fun, easy-going and extremely sweet even though I had to interrupt their lunch! Imagine, they had to talk while doing the best thing in the world: eating! But they were sweet and chatty, so check out their interview. 🙂

Team MM: What was the first thing that attracted you from the script of Action Jackson? Like what was the first thing you saw and you were like ‘I have to do this movie’!

Sonakshi: Well, for one I think it’s a really entertaining film and I think thats Prabhu Sir’s USP. Whatever he’s made so far has been very, very high on entertainment and other than that, it was a very funny character for me to be playing, it was a fun role in a fun premise and ya I think that’s what attracted me to it!

Ajay: Ah…like she said, it’s a Prabhudheva film… the way he makes you perform, there’s a lot of energy, I’ve not done a film where there’s so much of energy. The character which Prabhu has got, there was a nice angle to the story and his humour was spot on and the way he’s co-ordinated the action… it’s something really different. I won’t say that it’s a new film but it’s packaged in a very good manner so it looks really stylized. That’s what Hollywood also does: the emotions are the same, so it’s not that story that has to be new, it’s how you present it.

Team MM: Like the whole AJ song (I went to see the first look of it), when I saw it for the first time I was like wow! Then I saw it for the second time and all I could say was that this song looks so cool. Cool is the word that pops into my head after seeing the video.

Ajay: Exactly! And the way Prabhu dances, it’s unreal!

Team MM: Did you have to dance like that too? I’ve watched Keeda, I love that song.

Ajay: I’ve danced in the bits you’ve seen me dance, except for one song… I’ve danced with Sonakshi in that song, it’s yet to come out. There she’s REALLY danced, it’s a song called Chichora Piya, we’ve danced a lot in that song!

Team MM: Sonakshi, you also have a lot of followers on social networking sites. What I loved was that Instagram picture you put up about the ideal size for women, a lot of girls look up to Bollywood actresses when it comes to fashion and body image and it was awesome to see you promote healthy living! What made you put that up?

Sonakshi: It’s just something that I’ve been targetted for right from the very beginning of my career. Honestly, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with me, today it’s not a flaw that people have big ears, big noses, big whatever… there are many flaws you can point out in people but nobody really picks on them so why must I be picked on for my weight all the time which is not an issue? I mean, I’ve been in the industry since 4 years, I’ve done good work, I’ve not been a part of films that require me to be underweight or size zero. India is made up of people of different shapes and sizes ya, if you’re naturally born skinny and have a good metabolism you will be thin. Nobody has to strive to look a particular way if they can’t.

Ajay: But the world also accepts now that promoting size zero is very unhealthy for women and it brings their morale down.

Sonakshi: And I, for one, have always believed in projecting a very healthy body image – an excess of anything is bad for you; excess of exercise, excess of dieting… life just needs to be lived in moderation.

Team MM: On that note, I also want to tell you how awesome your tweet to KRK was, it was really needed.

Sonakshi: Thanks, but I don’t want to give him any attention by talking about it. Thanks a lot, though!

Team MM: Ajay what about you, how do you deal with trolls on Twitter?

Ajay: I don’t tweet a lot, but with time I have realised I’ve never had to deal with a negative comment. No one has said anything wrong to me on Twitter, ever! Maybe it’s a coincidence or maybe I don’t meddle in other people’s issues…

Sonakshi to Ajay: Maybe people are just scared of you!

Ajay: Why would anyone be  scared of me on Twitter?

Sonakshi: Maybe because of that look on your face

Ajay: No but, I have never got anything negative on Twitter – anything!

Sonakshi: But you know, honestly, the hate compared to the love you get on social media, like the ratio is… there’s a vast difference!

Ajay: Exactly!

Sonakshi: For every million people who really like you and follow you, there’ll be two haters, so you know it’s really not big a deal.

Ajay: And you can understand their agenda.

Team MM: Interestingly, many people tweeted to us ask Ajay Devgn when we’ll be seeing him in a clean-shaved look!

Ajay: Singham had clean, there was just a moustache.

Team MM: I think they mean without any facial hair…

Ajay: I feel uncomfortable now without a moustache, you know, because I haven’t tried that look since a long time. They really want that?

Team MM: Yeah, I think I got at least 10 tweets from different handles asking the same question!

Ajay: I’ll try then.

Team MM: That’ll be great, what about your upcoming movies?

Sonakshi: There are really exciting times ahead of me because I’m a part of three different films – three films that are really out there, they’re big films! So, starting with Action Jackson then Linga my Tamil debut, and then Tevar. All three films have got a great response from the audiences, the media, the Internet, everywhere! I’m really excited and I can’t wait for all of them to release.

Ajay: Right now after Action Jackson I’m only concentrating on one film, Shivay, so after I finish that I’ll start thinking about something else.

Team MM: And when will Kajol come back?

Ajay: The script is still being worked upon, should start mid of next year.

Team MM: Awesome, please tell her we can’t wait to see her on the big screen again.

Ajay: Definitely.

Team MM: Sonakshi, many top actresses don’t like to experiment too much with their hairstyles, but your short hair got a lot of attention! It looks wonderful on you though. What drove you to it, was it for a character or was it just for change?

Sonakshi: I honestly didn’t even think that much about it, I got up one day and decided I want to cut my hair so I did it. I’ve been wanting to do it since a while because I’ve had long hair for a very long time. The last time I had short hair was in school you know and I couldn’t cut it because of the continuity of my films. I was stuck in the middle of that, but then I woke up one day and realised I’m not shooting, I’m only promoting my films and my next film won’t start until January so I didn’t even think, I just got up and I went to cut my hair.

Team MM: And created a fashion statement!

Sonakshi: Haha, I just chopped them off!

Team MM: Thanks a lot for the interview guys, and sorry for interrupting your lunch. Best of luck for Action Jackson!

Sonakshi and Ajay: Thanks a lot!
