What makes something a “statement” and how do you get your hands on it? After years of working in the fashion industry and hours of observation, I’ve finally found a fragment of the answer. Of course nailing this technique might take years, but we might as well have something to start with, right? Before I list down a few things you can buy and use to create a statement, let me explain what I mean by the word. A statement piece is simply something you can throw on to your look thereby transforming it to automatically standout in a crowd. Simple? Don’t stress, it gets easier, I promise. Here are a few things you can try, let’s start with my favourite…

P.S. And when I say “No matter where you go” I don’t mean to the supermarket or gym! None of these options would work there!

1. An Eye-Widening Jacket

What do I mean by eye-widening? Well, exactly that. This jacket isn’t one of those basic blazers you wear to match your outfit. And no, this jacket isn’t nude, tan or black. This one is bright, it’s a bit loud and if your personality can carry it off, it’s something your wardrobe needs.

2. An Ounce Of Sparkle

Try a necklace that’s a bit on the larger side. Something shiny, eye-catching and bold. It can be long or short just as long as it’s the only bit of bling on your body at one point of time.

3. One Step Forward

This might just be a girl’s favourite part. Your statement lies on your feet and any outfit will be lucky to have this pair to complete the look.

4. Hold Your Statement

The brighter the better. All the power lies in your hand and it all depends on how you wear it. Hold it in the nook of your elbow or just plainly in your hand or on a chain. Try not to tuck it under your arm, that just diminishes the impact.

Things To Remember:

1. Whenever you’re trying to use on of these, remember to keep the rest of your outfit on a very subtle side. Nothing to match your statement or too bright. Just a simple black, white, beige and anything neutral is what’s required.
2. Never wear more than two of these together at one time – never!
3. When it comes to jewellery, you can even try a pair of statement earrings. Just make sure it’s something on the top half of your body and somewhere that draws attention.

And that’s it for now. Watch this space because as soon as I learn more, I’ll be bringing it to you!
