Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, who is currently in Pune’s Yerwada jail for the illegal possession of arms in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, has reportedly asked for a 14 day long furlough (which is basically a leave of absence like bail). The reason behind this leave application hasn’t been revealed yet. He is spending a sentence of 42 months in jail.

Between the time of May 2013 to May 2014, Dutt has spent 118 days out of jail on bail for various reasons. In December last year, he was let out to tend to his very ill wife Manyata Dutt for a month. He also got an extension on that leave as Manyata was getting worse. Before that, in Ocotber, Dutt was out again on grounds of his own bad health as he complained of severe leg pain.

He received a lot of flak for his frequent parole applications, and controversies also surrounded the authorities as they were questioned by the Bombay High Court in February this year about granting him as many leaves as they did just because he’s a celebrity. Home Minister R R Patil had indicated changes in the rules which would make inmates serve additional term for paroles granted.

Well, a bail is usually granted only if there’s a serious health issue of the inmate or an immediate family member. Even though the reason hasn’t been revealed yet, I hope all is well in the Dutt family.

Do you think it’s fair to let him out of jail, again? Share your thoughts!
