Well, it is that time of the year again when everyone seems to ask you the same question everywhere you go – “What are you doing for New Year’s Eve?” Well, I, for one, will be at home, in my sweat pants, ordering in pizzas, calling over a bunch of friends, breaking open the bubbly, and having a movie marathon. So here’s my list of  top 5 movies to watch if you are staying in tonight.

1. Home Alone

This is a childhood classic, and it’s always nice to revisit simpler times when you were a kid. This movie lets you do just that. So many years later, still wish I was that child!

2. New Year’s Eve

This is one of my absolute favorites during the holiday season! It is Hollywood’s version of a Bollywood movie. This movie will please everyone, from the cynics to the optimists, from the hopeless romantics to the haters, from the believers to the non-believers. It boasts of quite a famous cast with multiple story lines that all take place over the day of New Year’s Eve.

3. Love Actually

This is the movie that Salaam-e-Ishq was ‘inspired’ from. Now, I don’t know about any one else out there but I actually love this movie. This is another one of the multi starrer movies with multiple plots. Remember the scene with Mark turning up as a caroler with cue cards having sweet nothings scribbled on it? No? Then go and watch the movie. Another reason, you ask? Hugh Grant!

4. Bridget Jones’ Diary

Not all of us have perfect lives during the holiday season. There is always something missing and Bridget is just like one of us. She isn’t perfect but is real. From cussing to smoking, from falling in love with the wrong men to drinking, she does it all. She is a mess and doesn’t hide it. This is the movie that had us looking for our very own Mr. Darcy who would say, “I like you, very much. Just as you are.”

5. Serendipity

Yes, another romantic movie! But this one is about signs, chances, and the fact that if it is meant to be, it will be. So don’t stress and if you are feeling something in your gut, it is most likely true, so go with it!

Let us know what you are doing for New Year’s Eve and if you end up watching any one of these movies! Happy New Year!
