Outrage in 2014
Outrage in 2014

It’s the year 2015 (how weird does THAT feel to say?!) and since we’re still getting used to the idea, I present to you a series of #flashblogs recapping the stories you loved and loathed MOST on MissMalini.com in 2014. Starting with the 7 times you were completely shocked at some of the crazy sh*t that went down in Bollywood and beyond. Here you go! xoxo

1. When Gauhar Khan Was Slapped On Stage.

(I still can’t believe that something like this could even happen in the year 2014, btw.) Gauhar Khan was slapped on stage by some nut job for wearing “skimpy clothes”, in front of everybody during the shoot of her show, India’s Raw Talent. Sheesh. Heaps of Bollywood spoke out on her behalf after the incident, including her then boyfriend Kushal Tandon. Gauahar herself was extremely dignified in her official response and this vlogger – Monster Shanu – went viral with his explanation about the plight of Indian women today.

2. When Kamaal R Khan Did His Bollywood “Butt” Survey.

Sonakshi Sinha served up her own smack-down to “celebrity” sleaze bag Kamaal R Khan for constantly posting offensive tweets. This time, inspired by Kim Kardashian, he took off trying to survey who has the best “butt” in Bollywood and started tagging Bollywood belles like Deepika Padukone and Parineeti Chopra in his tweets. Of course shotgun junior wasn’t having any of it and recommended he be hung upside down and given four slaps. Sign me up! (No surprise though that this was not his first Twitter war.)

3. When Deepika Padukone’s Cleavage Became a Big Deal.

Deepika Padukone wrote this open letter to the Times of India after a video crassly pointing out her cleavage was posted on their YouTube channel. Once again Bollywood took to Twitter to champion her cause. What was even more disturbing was TOI’s handling of the matter with THIS follow up article by the editor at which point the rest of the media jumped in and called them out for slut-shaming Deepika.

4. When This Photographer Tried To Glamourise Rape.

And people started to speak up. Alia Bhatt even participated in a Vogue Empower video that hit home with the message, what real men SHOULD be like. Shenaz Treasury wrote an open letter about the punishment for rape to the most powerful men in the country. Meanwhile, watching three girls I know, Poorna Jagannathan, Piryanka Bose and Sapna Bhavnani share their own traumatic tales of abuse in Yael Farber‘s heartbreaking retelling of the horrific rape that shook the nation in Delhi, personally left me chilled to the bone. Channel [v] launched the VithU app to help send SOS messages to friends and family. Then one utterly misguided fashion photographer decided to make rape “fashionable“. Vomit.

5. This Ridiculous Ad For Weight loss.

How are we ok with ads like this? I have no words.

6. When You Thought SRK Slapped Yo Yo Honey Singh!

Lucky for Yo Yo, turns out that was just a rumour, but it spread like wild fire! (Just like the time Twitter killed him off too!)

7. When You Heard About Shweta Prasad’s Prostitution Scandal.

What’s crazy is that Shweta Prasad Basu, the National Award winning child star from Makdee, found herself amidst a baseless prostitution conspiracy that was completely made up! She was put in a rescue home along with other victims of human trafficking but cleared the air upon her release.
