The Indian Flag
The Indian Flag

We’re all feeling a little patriotic at the Team MissMalini HQ and we know the whole country is feeling it too! It’s Republic Day, after all, which got me thinking about the colors of our flag: saffron, white, and green. As Beauty On Duty at Team MM, these are colors I come across very often during my makeup sessions. The 3 diverse colors on the color wheel perform 3 extremely important functions when it comes to the technicalities of makeup application.

1) Saffron/Orange

Orange is great for covering up dark spots, hyper pigmentation, and dark circles. It conceals darkness like no other color can. Kryolan’s orange camouflage cream is one of the best color correctors I’ve come across. I usually use it with a sponge applicator and go on top of it with a concealer that matches my skin tone.

2) White

Contrary to what many Indians still believe, white is not a color that is used to whiten your skin. A highlighter or a lighter color is used to highlight certain features to bring them forward. It’s all about playing with light.

3) Green

Just as orange is used to cover darkness, green conceals redness. Makeup artists often use green-tinted primers or green color correctors on people with a lot of red or inflamed spots on their face. According to color theory, green is on the opposite end of red on a color wheel, which is why it masks redness.

4) Blue

And as for blue, we all need a little glitz and glamour on our face from time to time. Blue is a trendy and versatile shade for the eyes. The blue wheel brings together our entire flag, just like an electric blue eye can bring together an entire look.
