Sunny Leone’s look in Leela

As was predicted in this column last week, Ek Paheli Leela took a much bigger opening than Dharam Sankat Mein. It was pretty much expected that the collections would be lesser than Jism 2 and Ragini MMS-2 as the former worked on the curiosity factor and the latter had chartbuster music and the franchise quotient involved. However, even though the Sunny Leone starrer still got numbers, they were mainly from the single screens as multiplexes were comparatively low. Due to this, the expected occupancy of around 40% at an all-India level wasn’t quite met.

With around 18 crore [gross numbers] coming in, the film has still managed to do much better than other hyped films that come with an ammunition of bigger leading heroes. In that perspective, Sunny Leone has shown again that she has an audience for herself in many pockets of the country, who would be happy to step in for a film even it gets such mixed reviews as Ek Paheli Leela. All eyes are now on how the film performs over the weekdays since next week arrives another massy film, Mr. X, which will have an audience of its own.

Second release of the week, Dharam Sankat Mein, couldn’t find any footing at the box office. It was very poor in its opening and couldn’t gather even half of OMG! Oh My God on its first day, what with just 1.3 crore coming in. With a weekend of just over 4 crore, the film has struggled to find audience for itself. It is a kind of film that would have managed to pick up only of reviews were uniformly very good and word of mouth excellent. Since that didn’t really turn out to be the case, the Paresh Rawal-Annu Kapoor starrer will fold up after a week long run.
