Just Mohabbat has got to be one of the coolest shows from the ’90s! I recently started watching the entire show on YouTube because I like taking a little #NostalgiaTrip down memory lane every now and then, and to be honest, Just Mohabbat could easily be India’s answer to The Wonder Years. The show had a very successful run of four whole years – 1996 to 2000 – and when watched today, it still doesn’t seem irrelevant in any way.

The show focuses on Jai’s growing up years as he deals with life, relationships, friends and family.

Let’s see what your favourite characters from the show are upto now!

1. Harsh Lunia aka Jai

The super cool Jai was played by child actor Harsh Lunia and surprisingly enough, he seemingly has zero presence in the digital space. But when I dug deeper, turns out Harsh is still acting. He was last seen in Anubhav Sinha‘s much appreciated Kabootar that premiered at the 10th Osians-Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema and was much appreciated by the audience.

2. Aditya Kapadia aka Gautam

It is a testament to the coolness of the show that Jai had an epic imaginary friend. Yup! The 10-year-old had an alter ego named Gautam who was played fabulously by Aditya Kapadia. He was last seen in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain as Khush.

3. Saleem Shah aka Raj

Raj, Saleem Shah
Raj, Saleem Shah

Jai’s father was the calm and composed CA Raj, and was played by Saleem Shah on screen. Saleem has been a part of various movies as well as TV shows and is also an active part of the theater scene.

4. Kavita Kapoor aka Maya

Maya, Kavita Kapoor

Raj’s wife was the beautiful Maya and the role was portrayed by Kavita Kapoor. You probably still remember her from the TV shows Yes Boss and Saans, but her Twitter bio now states that she’s a “Personal Development Coach,” among other things.

5. Alefia Kapadia aka Priya

Priya, Alefia Kapadia

Jai’s big sister Priya had guys falling all over her on the show. The character was played by Alefia Kapadia who was last seen in Pyar Ka Dard Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara.

6. Ashok Lokhande aka Desmond

Desmond, Ashok Lokhande

Ashok Lokhande, who played the ghar ka wafadaar naukar Desdmond, has been around for decades now. If you don’t already remember him from Sonpari, you probably know him from Diya Aur Baati Hum.

7. Surekha Sikri aka Mrs. Pandit

Mrs. Pandit, Surekha Sikri
Mrs. Pandit, Surekha Sikri

Mrs. Pandit was the coolest principal ever! Surekha Sikri breathed life into that character and she is still rocking it out as Dadisa on Balika Vadhu!

8. Manoj Pahwa aka Ishwar

Ishwar, Manoj Pahwa
Ishwar, Manoj Pahwa

Ishwar was Raj’s friend-in-need-is-a-friend-indeed buddy. Manoj Pahwa, who played that role, is a known face in the Indian TV scene and has also done parts in some movies. Personally, my favourite show with Pahwa in it is Office Office.

9. Anita Kanwal aka Sumitra

Ishwar’s (often) comical wife was played by Anita Kanwal who is an industry veteran.

Man, I LOVE this show. And I know I’m not alone when I say that the title track of Just Mohabbat could be a motivational poster.
