It’s no secret: Moms know how to make things better. It doesn’t matter if she’s dealing with her own issues, if she’s truly stumped about how to handle your problem, or if she’s angry with you – she will still, always, find a way to make the situation you’re in better or then burden on your shoulders lighter. Which is why we were really touched by this video from the folks over at Nutralite, where a real girl talks about how her mother just knows how to make every situation lighter:

It’s true that your mother is always there for you. But there are sometimes we need our mothers more than usual, no matter how independent we want to be or think we are. Times like:

1) When you need someone to stick up for you in front of dad

She’ll cover for you in front of dad. She’ll ask him for permission for you (she will always swear it’s the last time she’s doing it, but she’ll always keep doing it). She won’t tell him the truth about what time you actually came home last night. You may get crap from her for it (deservedly so!), but in front of everyone else, she’ll have your back.

2) When you break up with someone for the first time

Your friends will always be there to help you through the break-up and all the associated feelings that come along with it, but no one can replace your mum. She knows when you’ve holed up in your bedroom with no interest in getting out, she knows how to force you out of that shell slowly, and she knows when to give you a little space to deal with it all. You may not explicitly tell your mom that you’ve broken up with somebody, but she knows something’s up – and she’ll be there.

3) When you have career issues

Whether it be choosing an unconventional career that the rest of your family disagrees with, or dealing with issues that crop up when you have to stay late at work (especially if you’re a woman), your mom will always try to see your side in it. She’ll stick up for you in small ways in front of the rest of the family, and will always be your cheerleader at the sidelines encouraging you to do more of what you love professionally.

4) When you screw up majorly for the first time at work

We all have hiccups at work, but everyone remembers that “first time” – the first time they got majorly yelled at by their boss or the first time they really screwed up on the job. You probably thought the world was coming to an end, but your mom was able to make the situation better: by comforting you, assuring you it’s not that huge a deal and motivating you to deal with the next day in a better way.

5) When you’re sick

It really doesn’t matter how independent or strong you are – one little sniffle, and suddenly all you need is your mom’s care. Nothing works as well as this does for a speedy recovery.

6) When you’ve lost something

There’s a saying that “nothing is truly lost until mom can’t find it.” Truer words have never been spoken. I’ve lost so many things over the years, from pencils in school (that my mom secretly replaced so my dad wouldn’t yell) to expensive jewellery – and my mother has always fixed the situation.

7) When you’ve got the pre-wedding jitters

Yeah, you’ve got your best friends to help out, but no one understands you quite like your mother does. She will go all out to make this the best possible time for you – even while dealing with all her own emotions on the subject!

Thanks, moms, for always being there for us – you really know how to make life a lot lighter! 🙂
