Karan Johar is always such a pleasure to hang out with. And every time I meet the man, I’m always left laughing my guts out. This time again, when I met him in Goa during the Bombay Velvet Press Junket, I had the same crazy experience! Check it out!
1) How did you go from a happy-shiny guy to being a villain?
You know I’m a Gemini (so am I), so you know between the two of us, there is four of us. Two of us are like happy, sunshine type of people and the other side, our alter ego is dark, evil, scheming, and manipulative. So, there was a side of me which existed which I think Anurag tapped into.
2) What’s the most evil thing you’ve done in life?
I have been to a Disney store and stolen. I have done a kleptomaniac activity! I went to the Disney store with my parents and I liked this pencil kit and I just decided to take it. I think it was at the age of 8. And then my father realised I had done that so he paid for it of course. Then I got this looong lecture from my parents back home about how stealing is bad. But I have stolen in school too – I had a thing for erasers. And then put on this straight face – ‘like me? I would never take anything! How could you think that about me’ – I do that a lot; even today like when I spread a rumour and am asked if I did that.
3) Why doesn’t anyone in Bollywood read mean tweets?
I read mean tweets! Everyone’s mean to me on Twitter. Actually ‘bro’ is the most macho I have ever been made to sound on Twitter. If I call you the kind of things they call me then you’d be beeping all through the show like – *beep* *beep* *beep*, mother-this, sister-this, wake up! I wake up to evil, nasty tweets about myself.
4) What are the 5 things it takes to be a villain?
The look in your eye of insanity; the body language of a villain which is always slightly skewed to be twisted; your clothes have to always be dramatic; your dialogues have to have that kind of menace in them; and you’ve got to have Anurag Kashyap in your life.
5) Who is your Bollywood BFF?
Ranbir Kapoor. Because he took my name too! 😛
6) “Surat se bholi, niyat se shikari” – who fits this description?
Alia Bhatt!
7) Acting, directing, producing, dance, and designing – is there anything you can’t do?
Fly a plane!
