Beauty and The Beast
Beauty and The Beast

Recently I was at the Reading Session of Disney’s Broadway musical, Beauty And The Beast which is now coming to India. It was a reading of just one act, but it left me wanting more. The actors were so enthusiastic that they made the room come alive with their melodious voices. It was then I decided that I am going to watch this musical no matter what. This is not a common phenomenon in the Indian theatre scene, you see.

After holding auditions in various cities and auditioning thousands of people, there is an all-Indian cast that has been selected for this musical which had originally premiered in 1994 in the USA. The stage musical is being directed by Vikranth Pawar, who told us,

The entire process took us over 3-4 months. As you are aware, finding talent who can sing, act and dance is not easy, so we auditioned across India in five cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. We hand-picked 18 talented — lead artists who can sing, dance and act, after multiple shortlist rounds from over 8,000 entries after over 1,000 in person auditions. It was an eye-opening exercise for us as we had never expected such a big turnout of people for the auditions and to see so much talent available in our country was very encouraging. We are extremely happy with our lead cast and are now working towards presenting a magical experience for the audiences.

We can’t wait for this magic!
