Anyone who has a pulse has felt that sense of absolute confusion when they don’t know what to wear. So, if you’re a girl particularly, you head over to your trusty laptop or phone and scout your Pinterest, We Heart It or style blogs to find the newest trick in the book. Sometimes you find a tip you like, but a lot of times, you see it and go – WHAT? Do people actually do this? I don’t know about you, but it feels all too familiar for me. So instead of whining about having nothing new to contribute, I decided to actually try those, sometimes absurd, tricks and see what they did for me…

1. The ‘Layer Your Skirt On Your Dress’ Trick

The first time I tried this, I did it with a whole lot of prints, colours and different silhouettes (massacre!). The second time, I stuck to what I knew – black and leather! I wore my basic black shift, threw my leather skirt on it, and secured it with a belt. The solid colour and different textures did it for me – added on my favourite denim jacket, and I was a happy camper.

2. The ‘Wear Your Shirt As An Off-Shoulder Top’ Trick

Every time Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, does this, she leaves me wide-eyed and wondering how it works. Turns out, it’s as simple as it looks. Adjust your shirt on your shoulders and button up what’s left of it. Tuck it or knot it – whatever floats your boat.

3. The ‘Wear Your Swimsuit As A Top’ Trick

This one I’ve actually done before and liked it. Anytime you feel like you’re out of nice tops to wear, just take your trunks and pair them with any kind of bottoms. It’s foolproof. Of course, you can only try this with a one-piece swimsuit. Otherwise, people will either think you’re in your bra or think you’re headed to another music festival.

Don’t try these out blindly, see what suits you, what you feel good in and then don’t hold back. Confidence is the key here and if you’ve got that, you have nothing to worry about!
