Grey Is My new Bae... How to work that Mundane colour and make it the star in your closet.
Grey is my new bae… How to work that mundane colour and make it the star in your closet, this fall.

For those of you who had doubts, wearing grey on grey is totally doable.

I can’t get enough of monochromatic styling and layering different tones together. There’s such a sophistication and relaxed feel, especially when mixing fabrics like wool, cotton, and suede. Just the other day I read it in the Vogue, how GREY is going to be a massive trend for 2015-2016, so I thought, why not talk about this.

Now, matching our blacks is something we don’t care to mess around with, but head-to-toe grey is a different story. Enter the color spectrum: With 50 shades of grey — yes, I went there — it is easy to accomplish a minimalist look without appearing utterly dull and dreary. You don’t have to wear grey shoes, let’s not get that crazy. But mixing different shades of grey in one look is pretty easy. Not a believer yet? No worries, I’ve put four looks together that might make you change the way you see grey.

Mixing different tones of grey is what will make things easier. I didn’t have a grey skirt in my wardrobe, (note to self — have to buy one pronto) so I did the next best thing. We have shown you how to transform a men’s formal shirt into a skirt before, so I’m taking that genius styling tip and used my stylist/business parter’s long sleeve grey t-shirt instead. I mean, the fact that you can wear a long sleeve tee in two different ways is pretty amazing. Wear the tee through the neck and wrap the sleeves around your waist and just like that, you got yourself a grey skirt. I’ve teamed the skirt with a darker coloured grey crop top, some cut-out boots and thrown a jacket over my shoulder.

This is a really pretty summer look using fall colour tones. Always mix a lighter grey with a darker one and you will get cool results. Don’t be afraid to keep things simple. I’m wearing an off-the-street grey peasant top with Vero Moda culottes and Aldo Birkenstocks. You can pair it with heels if you want to take this outfit on a night out.

This dress  is off the street. It’s very basic but the best part about it is that it already has two shades of grey in it. Since winter is coming…. (see what I did there) I added a grey shawl by Antar Agni. It’s never winter in Mumbai, but it does get chilly in the evenings, so a scarf is your best accessory. You can pair it with sandals, boots or sneakers depending on the weather.

Look 4

Like I said, winter is coming and lose oversized sweaters are perfect. I love grey sweaters and when they are a bit oversized it’s even better because it falls off your shoulder giving it that extra sexiness. I’ve worn my Vero Moda grey sweater over a drop-crotch grey jumper and completed the look with sneakers. I think I’m definitely wearing this on my next date to the movies.

Here are some more inspirations to prove that grey on grey is what it’s all about this winter.

What I actually love about this cool shade is the fact that being neutral, makes it go with anything. YES, everything.
