Sonam Kapoor was present at this year’s Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival where she spoke to Rohan Joshi about Bollywood and social media. The talk then took another direction and the actress was asked about her views on feminism. Here’s what Sonam said on this topic –
I am a complete feminist. Being a feminist is to understand that it’s not about boys and girls, it’s about being who you are, not being afraid, and standing up for what you believe is right.
She then said that in her opinion, her father Anil Kapoor is the perfect example of a feminist.
My father is the best person I know because he encourages me and my sister. He treats me as a strong capable individual and for that he is a feminist. He believes that these girls are more than capable of doing a lot of things which a lot of people are not.
Sonam’s views are a refreshing change, especially after actresses like Priyanka Chopra and Parineeti Chopra have distanced themselves from the term ‘feminists’ like it’s something bad. It really isn’t, you guys.
