As you know, just recently, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan both uploaded Dubsmash videos within a few minutes of each other. The kicker? They created videos to each other’s songs – Salman (and his Prem Ratan Dhan Payo team) did two videos of Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam, while SRK (and his Dilwale team) did the famous Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Dubsmash.
But did you ever wonder how that came about?
It was planned a little, but only slightly – apparently, the discussion of this all took place over a phone conversation a few minutes before the videos went up! Yes, guys, we live in a world where SRK and Salman are friends enough that they can pick up the phone and talk to each other. Siiiiigh. <3 <3 <3
Here’s what Shah Rukh said:
They were all sitting at home, I think, and Salman called me and said, “Kya kar raha hai tu?” I said we’ve just wrapped our film and we’re having dinner. So he said, “Yaar, tumhara poster release ho raha hai, so I’d like to do something for you and Kajol. We’d like to [Dubsmash] the song that Pritamda has done. So I said, “woh gaana toh abhi release hi nahin hua hai. Dubsmash nahin kar sakte.” So he put [DDLJ instead] and we did Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. It was a competition – who would do it first.
Varun added:
It was actually like that. We were all having dinner but Shah Rukh sir was like “we have to do it before those guys.” So we were just uploading, but our connection was a little slower. Theirs went up a little before. But ours was better, I think.
