Yesterday, Indian cinema lost one of its most iconic leading ladies, Sadhna Shivdasani. Known for her fringe (which is still called the ‘Sadhna cut‘) and setting fashion trends through her movies, Sadhna was always one of the most recognizable faces of the ’60’s and the ’70’s. Here’s a list of the 5 best movies she has done (in my humble opinion) that everyone needs to see at least once their lives. Her acting, her beautiful face and the songs featured on her have immortalized Sadhna in our memory.
1) Hum Dono
Not only is Hum Dono one of Sadhna’s best works, it’s also one of the best Bollywood movies ever. A World War 2 based saga, Hum Dono is the story of two lookalikes (played exceptionally by Dev Anand) who are in the Indian Army and how their lives intertwine due to a misunderstanding. Sadhna plays the love interest of one of the characters and features in one of the best songs of the film –
2) Woh Kaun Thi
A brilliant psychological mystery, Woh Kaun Thi was a remarkably unique film, which can still hold your attention from the start till the very end. And who can forget the haunting Naina Barse, where you can see Manoj Kumar slowly lose his head over the mysterious woman in white.
3) Waqt
The first legit ensemble movie of Bollywood, Waqt is widely considered to be one of the most iconic films made here. Directed by Yash Chopra, Waqt is a family drama which revolves around estranged brothers, lost love and broken dreams. And how love (in every form) overpowers all the troubles this family goes through.
4) Mera Saaya
Another double role by Sadhna, Mera Saaya is often said to be similar to Woh Kaun Thi, but it really isn’t. Mera Saaya again shows the range of Sadhna as an actress. No one can pull off a song like this with so much grace –
5) Intaqam
Intaqam is not as popular as the above mentioned movies of the actress, but it will always remain special to me. It was the first film I had seen of Sadhna and I missed watching Captain Planet so that I could complete the film. If you knew me when I was 6, you’d know that was a very big deal. If you can’t recall this one, just remember that Helen‘s Aa Jaane Jaa was from this film.
