The opening of the 69th Cannes Film Festival created a lot of buzz because a comedian cracked rape joke on Woody Allen. Though French comedian Laurent Lafitte didn’t directly mention his name, the audience gasped as soon as she made the joke in Woody’s presence.
It’s very nice that you have been shooting so many movies in Europe, even if you are not being convicted for rape in the US.
The joke, was a reference to Academy Award winning director Roman Polanski who, many years ago, had fled to Europe after raping a 13-year-old girl and Woody Allen whose adopted daughter Dylan claimed he sexually abused her when she was 7. The director has denied that claim.
