I love the fact that gender equality and conversations around it are a mainstream thing now. Filmmakers, public figures, cinema, music, brands – everyone is talking about it. I was very impressed with Ariel’s #ShareTheLoad campaign. It’s got to be one of the most talked about campaigns in recent times, no? I loved the dad’s point of view in the ad and it only seems more fitting as today is Father’s Day.

Taking their contribution to the gender equality conversation forward, Ariel India is lending out support to a beautiful endevour by the renowned national NGO called Akshara Centre. Akshara is known for its work towards women’s equality and empowerment and it’s now launching a course called ‘#ShareTheLoad – Be The Change’ for universities and colleges across the country.

It’s a 3 hour long course and I like that it’s completely free of cost. It’s aimed at students between the age group of 17 and 21 and its agenda is to touch topics like gender equality and ending stereotypes, especially within the household. The course will go to universities all through next year and hopefully reach out to a large number of students.

Akshara focuses on empowering women and girls with education and productive work to help them build resistance to violence in their lives. Their aim is to enable women to be strong and independent contributing members to society.

They describe their vision as ‘a three-dimensional vision for change: changing hearts and minds of young women and men, impacting public attitudes, and reforming systems that deny gender justice’ – And they are making this vision come to life through a variety of programs, of which #ShareTheLoad- Be The Change is a very important milestone.

Good on you, Ariel!
