We’re now SIX episodes into Bollywood+ With MissMalini on Saavn, and we hope you’re enjoying listening to the show just as much as we’re enjoying putting it together for you! This particular episode is a bonus special episode released today (Saturday!) in addition to our weekly Wednesday episodes. And in this one, MissMalini discusses one big topic: how the stars actually became stars! We went out and spoke to our favourite celebrities for their backstories and how they got their break in Bollywood, and the answers were both fun and insightful.

Here’s a quick recap for you:

1. Sushant Singh Rajput was the shy kid growing up and wasn’t outgoing at all!

3. Aishwarya Rai was almost rejected from that Pepsi commercial (yes, THE one) because she looked too “studentish”

Genius adman Prahlad Kakkar spoke to us about how he was hesitant about casting her as Sanjana in the Pepsi commercial, since she looked a bit too student-ish in her torn jeans. Instead, he suggested that they do a “trial” to see how well she’s received by casting her in another commercial instead. And then, when she showed up on sets with her hair and make-up done, everyone was so blown away by how she looked, that they immediately cast her in the Pepsi commercial without a back-up option. He even tells us why she almost gave up midway, and how he had to coax her into continuing – but you’ll have to listen to the show for those details 🙂

4. Sunny Leone grew up in a Punjabi household where she wasn’t even allowed to pluck her eyebrows

5. Shah Rukh Khan’s lifelong dream wasn’t to join Bollywood – it was to join the Indian Army!

6. Manish Malhotra didn’t have the money to launch his own collection back in 1990, so he turned to films to get noticed
