Rohan Mehra gained immense popularity with his role in Bade Achhe Lagte Hai and later as Naksh in Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Earlier there were reports that the actor has quit his ongoing daily to contest in Bigg Boss Season 10. But the actor cleared the air when we caught up with him a few hours before he entered the house:
I haven’t quit Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai yet, I have taken a gap for Bigg Boss. I’ll decide after the show if I want to go back or not and they (makers) will also decide if I should be brought back to the show. It was a mutual decision. But I have definitely not quit.
As much as we are looking forward to seeing the real Rohan in the house, TV viewers love him as Naksh and the actor says his real life persona is quite relatable to his on screen character. Will that work in his favour, considering reality shows are based on viewers’ votes? Of course, yes, he says:
More than me, the audience loves Naksh. And I am like Naksh in real life, very caring and loving, so I am sure they will love me. Also, the audience already knows a lot about me and my personal life. But if I turn out to be a bad person, they won’t love me.
Staying in front of the camera 24X7 is not easy anyway and the cute actor is aware of the challenges he may have to face:
What remains to be seen is how I handle stress and deal with challenges like staying without a phone. I don’t know what I might discover about myself when in the house but I will learn good as well as bad things about myself.
Quite obviously, the better part is the massive viewership of the show which will help him expand his horizon:
People got to know me after Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, but the youth was not a part of that audience. I had a particular audience, but with Bigg Boss, I want to connect to a larger audience as young people also watch the show. The show is very popular with the masses and Salman Khan is hosting it, so it’s a bigger, better platform.
And lastly, what will you miss the most about the world outside?
My family and my phone of course. Apart from that, I think I will miss shooting. Actually I haven’t had the time to think about this at all, just going straight in the house. I will realise that once I am inside the house and won’t find the things I need around me.
