Funnily enough I got this update from a pal of mine who has held a candle for the lovely Dia Mirza for a very long time. The subject of his email was “NAHIIIIIIIIN!!!!!” *LOL* But I’m guessing he’s not alone!

Her long-time boyfriend Sahil Sangha and her finally have marriage plans it seems. She confirms, “Yes, I’m getting married to Sahil early next year. That’s what we have decided as of now, unless we get too busy with our films.” Sahil Sangha btw is the director of Love, Breakups Zindagi. 

I have a funny Sahil story actually. The first time I met him (at another pal’s) house, he asked me what I did for a living and when I explained that I am a Bollywood/Fashion/Lifestyle blogger he started to quiz me on what I thought of films like Golmaal while I was totally oblivious to what he did (albeit mildy suspicious he might be from the filmy frat once the quizzing began!)

Sadly, I never got to tell him how much I loved LBZ, especially this song. But maybe he’ll read this blog :) xoxo

I’m super proud that Vidya Balan sits on the Cannes jury, but I’m bored to tears looking at those matronly outfits. Next up, we have this red one that she paired with a string of pearls. The look was clearly inspired by Maharani Gayatri Devi. However, Balan fails to pull it off.

Salman Khan

Salman Khan fans can breathe a sigh of relief! Shooting for Mental had come to a standstill for the longest while because of a dispute between the Mumbai stuntmen and those from the South. However, word has it now that shooting has resumed, and Salman refused to give into the demands of the stuntmen.

As per the All India Film Employees Confederation, in the case of Mental, 70% of the stuntmen have to be from the Hindi film industry, and 30% have to be from the South. However, the South stuntmen had insisted that 50% of their men be taken on for this film, and had refused to continue shooting until that happened. This led to a dispute, and finally Salman Khan has cancelled their contracts entirely.

According to TOI, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees president agrees with Salman’s move and has come out in support of the actor.

Rishi Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor are all set to be seen on-screen together in Besharam, and according to Papa Kapoor, this was only a testing ground to see how well they work together. Apparently it’s been a good ride because now they’re planning on doing something a little more substantial (Rishi and Neetu Kapoor only have a few scenes in Besharam), and are therefore thinking of remaking Awara!

Rishi confirmed this recently, saying that they would most likely make this film under the RK Films banner, but he wouldn’t be directing it. As for Besharam, Rishi says that the director is trying to expand his and Neetu roles, so that the Kapoor khandaan gets some more screen time with each other. We’re definitely looking forward to that – they’re a family of talented actors, so it’ll be good to see. :)

To achieve the look, L’Oreal True Match foundation was applied on her skin, it was then topped off with True Match blush in Pink Grapefruit. Velours Noirs eyeshadow was blended onto her lids for a smokey look. Volume Million mascara kept those lashes looking long. Finally, Colour Riche lipstick in Silky Toffee was slicked onto her lips.

Bahahahaha. I knew it! It was bound to happen! Tusshar Kapoor has decided to launch his own film production company (undoubtedly with ace power-sister Ekta Kapoor‘s guidance.)

Here’s what he said, “My production house will surely carve its own niche in the industry. It won’t be just another addition to the list of production houses which already exist. I won’t produce anything that is mediocre.”

Um… nothing mediocre? So I take it you won’t be starring in any of these films yourself TK?

I’m also mildly confused by this addition, “I will never make abstract, art house cinema. My films will be offbeat, but will also appeal to a mass audience. A good film eventually becomes commercially viable and that’s what I am aiming for as a producer.”

But what stole my heart was the long side-swept hair and her flushed pink cheeks. The L’Oréal glam squad prepped her skin by first applying True Match foundation.  True Match blush in Pink Marshmallow was dusted onto her cheeks. Keeping in mind the colour of her outfit, her eyes were pepped with Infalliable in Forever Pink. Her lashes were then coated with the Volume Million mascara. Finally, Color Riche lipstick of Velvet Rose was applied on her lips.

For some reason this press release that MTV is launching a line of lingerie called Show Off totally reminded me of a hilarious Rupa sketch that used to play all the time back in the day *LOL*  I couldn’t find the original but it goes something like this!

Ajay Devgn and Kajol are all set for their London getaway, which should be happening soon, but word has it that the trip is not strictly a vacation. Infact, if rumours are to be believed, the couple is going to be buying a house there!

According to TOI, they’re planning on purchasing quite a large property, so much so that you could even go ahead and refer to it as a “mansion.” The two love the city and have allegedly been harbouring the dream of purchasing a home there, something that seems to be in the works – discussions are apparently in the final phase. This hasn’t been confirmed by the couple yet, though the article maintains a source close to Kajol has verified the story. Guess we’ll see!

Now we all know Aamir Khan is considered to be somewhat of a Bollywood marketing genius, but now word has it that Kiran Rao is taking a very keen interest in the marketing of her upcoming film as well. The first film, Ship of Theseus, from her new banner, will be releasing on July 19th and Kiran has made a bold decision in regards to promotion of the film.

Kiran, who thinks the digital medium is the way forward, has apparently decided not to showcase any promotions at all on television. She will be pumping the marketing budget into an online campaign instead, so even all paid promotions will appear online instead of on TV. We’re told that she strongly believes one does not need to advertise on television in order to capture the attention of the “intelligent” audience, and is therefore spending an equal amount for digital promotions as one would’ve spent for TV promotions.

Well, guess we’ll have to wait and see how effective is once the campaign begins!

Stylist, designer and make-up artist, Josie Paris, is a well-known name in the fashion fraternity and she put her skills to good use at the RESIST art show which was held at Gallery Beyond in Mumbai, over the weekend.

The show, which comprised of paintings, live installations, performances and illustrations, was  bound by one common thread – the protest against gender violence.

A  number of artists and designers collaborated on live installations alongside their art work and these “live installations” were real people. Josie’s role was to do their make-up in keeping with the theme of the work being exhibited.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her first Cannes red carpet appearance last night at the premiere of the Justin Timberlake-starrer Inside Llewyn Davis, in a gown with sequined black guipure lace applications, from Elie Saab’s Spring 2013 Couture collection. I’m not too crazy about the gown but gotta say that she looks smashing. In fact, I don’t remember her looking this good and confident in a long while! Just wish she had gone for an updo and some pop of colour by way of the box clutch or jewellery. Agree with me, y’all?

The textbook for the Environmental Studies class starts off with a chapter titled Roving Families, Shifting Homes, and PC’s growing up years are covered within the text. A story has been included in the chapter which is adapted from Priyanka’s life, speaking about her army background and how she was required to spend her childhood in many places, including Bareilly, Lucknow and Mumbai in India; Newton, Massachusetts and Iowa in the USA.

In a recent interview, Katrina Kaif spoke about her journey in Bollywood – everything from coming to Mumbai at 17 years old without knowing the language, to finding a space for herself in the industry today. Of course, since Salman Khan is often referred to as Katrina’s “Godfather” in the industry, she was asked how much credit she gives his guidance. Here was her answer.

Soundtrack From The Motion Picture, ‘The Great Gatsby’

What do Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet and The Great Gatsby have in common? Apart from Baz Luhrmann, both Moulin Rouge and Romeo Juliet had great soundtracks, and The Great Gatsby almost had it nailed. The soundtrack for the film is produced by Luhrmann and Anton Monsted with Jay Z on the chair as the Executive Producer. Like in his past films, Luhrmann has opted for a mix of artists to set up an all-rounded compilation of moods for his film. The idea is to recreate the roaring twenties with a contemporary twist, theoretically speaking…

The attempt was to bridge the gap between the new and traditional, or so it seemed. With a few tracks like Bryan Ferry‘s “Love Is The Drug”  and Beyonce‘s “Crazy In Love” covered by Emeli Sande that are close to decent, the rest have struggled to maintain a synchronous flow between each other. Most tracks here are either hybrids of old traditional jazz mixed with modern bumps or strong within their own genre but borrow moods from the film. “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” which features Fergie and “Bang Bang” by Will.I.Am, tried to represent Gatsby’s decadent parties and lifestyle, but didn’t quite reach the finish line as they got lost in the commercial half-a-brain beats – thus seeming forced in parts and terribly disrupted the flow to  the other tracks. Will.I.am’s rapping is painful to hear in the context of the twenties, even if it was meant to be a ‘contemporary’ take on the period. But it is Jay Z’s own offering called “100$bills” that almost hits the mark with respect to the opulent theme of the film. He does it in his street cool style.

Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine and Lana Del Rey steal the limelight with their story-telling through music . Florence is known for her orchestrated choirs and theatrical idea of a painful romance. She brings it all to the table in “Over The Love”. Starting the story with a light piano while singing “Every since I was a child..” and taking to it a resonating volume with her haunting vocals, the track is another example of her thrilling display of capabilities as an serious bankable musician. On another cinematic-ally executed note, “Young And Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey is quaint and soothing.  Old Hollywood sadness at its best, she is one of the relevant artists in the list, just because her music is beautifully heart-melting. The presence of Gotye and Sia is worth an appreciation, they have been making quality music for a while but have gained mass recognition recently. Gotye’s “Heart’s A Mess” again, is lyrically strong and has heavy brass which is not too far from his own sounds exhibited in his previous albums. Sia is deeply soulful and she has always been that. Both their tracks are the softer core of the soundtrack.

Surprisingly, the XX and Nero are thrown into the mix of artists. Is it for their strengths or just to merely add another dimension? Though both are well executed pieces, one in dream space and the other is a dubstep rendition. Jack White‘s cover of U2‘s “Love Is Blindness” is scratchily loud and rebellious in its tone. Lovers of alternative rock will applaud it but it might not go well with hardcore U2 fans. Now, the presence of all these artists in one soup makes you wonder, “How many genres are present here?!!” And this where the cookie crumbles.

With too many styles and each fighting to hold their own, it was a tall order and Jay Z may have dropped the balls. Especially by taking in all his ‘friends’ like Fergie, Andre 300 and Will.I. Am into the project, the lot seemed forced to ‘get along’ with each other. But the biggest loser here is Andre 3000 with Beyonce covering a classic that probably needed to be left peacefully alone in the first place. The blame is all on Andre more than Beyonce, he has butchered Amy Winehouse‘s infamous “Back To Black” to point that the late singer’s father tweeted that he wasn’t please with the outcome (with respect to Andre 3000).

With a few strong tracks, a healthy lot of fillers and some forced mutation of sounds, Music From The Great Gatsby has received mixed reviews and rightly so. For a fact, you can’t please everyone – even if that’s that what Jay Z, Anton Monsted and Luhrmann probably set out to do. Rock, electronic, dubtsep, jazz, hip-hop and not to mention a few covers, all together are hard to hold in sync. Their strong sense of individuality will clash with each other and as one music critic distinctively called it “a brilliant attempt disrupted by noisy neighbours”.  Overall, the album is worth a listen in parts and you will love it in parts. But as I mentioned in my blog, this soundtrack is a classic example of “Jack of all trades master of none”

The reason my Cannes coverage this year has been so threadbare is because I wasn’t stirred enough by the fash parade to the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès − to want to write about it. Give or take the odd gown here and there, most of the stuff were underwhelming. And then we got this, on Spanish actress-model Nieves Álvarez, at the premiere of the Benecio del Toro-starrer Jimmy P.: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian. Custom-made by Ralph & Russo Couture, this strapless scarlet gown with a dramatic bustle, captured best what a Cannes red carpet should be all about. Christian Louboutin ‘Belbride’ sandals and ‘Mina’ minaudière in specchio gold and Chopard jewels were the accompaniments to the gown. Side-swept tresses rounded off her look. This gets a 20 on 10 from – how about you?

It’s no big secret that Martians have never understood us creatures from Venus. It’s partly because of our need for keeping things mysterious and partly because you don’t read between the lines. So men, let me do you all a huge favour (you can thank me later) and reveal some of our secrets. Here’s a list of 7 things we’ll never tell you, no matter what.

How long it takes us to Parallel Park: Now I am in no way supporting the generalization that we suck as drivers, but let’s face it, parallel parking is every woman’s nightmare. Having missed half an hour of a movie once because I was struggling to squeeze my car between a Land Rover and an Innova, I know for sure that other women have shared this predicament. But we’d rather lose precious time than ask for your help and feed your already humongous ego!

What we really weigh  This is an obvious one. We’re in denial and won’t admit our actual weight to ourselves, much less to you. Also, consider this as an insider tip:  you men don’t have to waste your money on expensive dates and alcohol to get us naked. All you have to do is ask us to stand on your weighing scale and we’ll automatically shed all garments, because hello, clothes weigh like 2 whole kilos!

We stalk you on Facebook. We stalk you a lot…: Guys will shamelessly ‘like’ every picture of a hot girl on Facebook. Women are more subtle. When we like someone, we play it cool (at least in the initial getting- to- know-each-other phase). We’ll never tell you that we watched all your pictures on Fb and know EXACTLY what you did last summer (and the summer before that) and what your ex looks like.

We stalk your ex. We stalk her a lot…: We’re vain creatures. So when you tell us that we’re prettier than your ex, we need to see it to believe it. We also want to know if she’s still in touch with you and if you continue to ‘like’ her pictures, because that automatically translates as ‘I still wanna bang you’ (refer to point 3)

Your best friend is rather hot! Just like many guys develop crushes on their best friend’s girlfriends, we’re likely to find your best friend attractive too. But, we know that’s dangerous territory, so we would never admit that to you. We know how insecure you can get when you (read your ego) get offended and we don’t want to mess up your bromance with your bestie.

We are not Au Naturel! You think we look this good naturally?! No way! Looking good requires effort. You’ll never know the number of hours (and money) we have spent on micro-derm skin abrasions, straightening our hair and whitening our teeth to look the way we do. Ishkq in Paris

Preity Zinta‘s Ishkq in Paris is now just a week away from release – it will hit theatres on the 24th – so promotions are definitely on. She recently came out with co-star Rhehan Malliek, director Prem Soni, and Sophie Choudry, who is the voice behind the French part of It’s All About Tonight. At the event, Preity claimed that certain parts of the film are inspired from her life.

That’s not all, though – she also said instances have been taken from Prem’s life, as well as her own PRO’s life! She joked that they haven’t spared anyone, but then went on to say that art imitates life, which is why there’s a little bit of everyone’s in the film.

Sonakshi Sinha, who made her debut with Salman Khan, has often taken advice from the actor, and it seems like she may do so yet again! This time around, Sonakshi needs a little help preparing for a media event she’ll be doing to promote her upcoming film, Lootera.

It’s well-known that Salman has been painting for years, but what’s slightly less well-known is that Sonakshi enjoys this hobby as well. Infact, for Lootera, she’s seen painting quite often on-screen, and therefore the makers thought it would be a good idea to get her to do it live in front of the media as part of the promotional round.

So we hear Sonakshi approached Salman for tips about painting in front of the media – something she will be doing tomorrow. Guess we’ll see how it goes!

The Reluctant Fundamentalist

I don’t want to give too much away so I’m just giving you my notes on the 10 things I loved best about The Reluctant Fundamentalist. I was really looking forward to watching this film that’s been 5 years in the making, and now you can catch it at a theatre near you! Oh and incase you missed it, here are all the clicks from the star-studded premiere I attended earlier this week.

1. It’s a Mira Nair film. Poignant and real – just as we expect all her films to be. Worth a watch for that alone.

2. Rizwan “Riz” Ahmed (also known as Riz MC). He’s a British actor and rapper from London, of Pakistani heritage and I think he does a fabulous job in this film. I found myself intrigued by him and his intellectual yet gritty representation of Changez Khan. A young Pakistani banker who sets out to live the American dream (Ivy league education and all) when the unthinkable happens. Two planes destroy the twin towers and devastate America, turning his life upside down. Plus he’s a cutie.

3. Javed Akhtar‘s lyrics and eulogy. The man is a genius what else can I say.

4. Jack Baur not being Jack Bauer. For people (like me) who have watched way too much 24 for their own good, seeing Kiefer Sutherland play something other than the tormented counter-terrorist anti-hero is a breath of fresh air.

6. Kate Hudson‘s art project. I can’t say much, but this was the tweet it promoted me to send Riz :)

7. The soundtrack. Which kicks off with the song Kangna by Fareed Ayaz & Abu Muhammad from the Coke Studio Pakistan.

8. A stunning Shabana Azmi. How does she look so drop dead stunning STILL?! And even though they play supporting roles Om Puri and her do so convincingly, evoking the quintessential desi parents we all know so well!

9. Haluk Bilginer as the Turkish professor was particularly memorable. Even Priyanka Chopra said so :)

10. Brilliant cinematography. Declan Quinn took great pains to shoot the scenes in New York and Pakistan extremely distinctly for high impact.

PS. I’d love to hear your comments once you watch the film. The only reason I was “reluctant” to give this movie 4 stars is for the fact that this poor Pakistani kid just couldn’t catch a break in America or back “home” and for some reason that felt oddly unrealistic to me. Once you watch you’ll see what I mean. But deffy worth watching on the big screen so go for sure and come back and leave me your thoughts! xoxo

Like MissMalini told you, this week she attended an event hosted by Shankar Mahadevan in aid of The Akshaya Patra Foundation. The event, which aimed at raising awareness about the challenges of malnutrition, was attended by several well-known personalities, including Sudha Murty, Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra, Prasoon and Aparna  Joshi, Mohandas Pai, Praveen Kadle of Tata Capitol, Addl. DG, Police, Mr Hemant Nagrale, Prasad Badipa, Hafeez and Pearl Contractor,  Jayant Patil (Cabinet Minister Of Rural Development in Western India) and Birgit Zorniger (Taj GM).

The evening included live performances by Shankar and the kids from the Akshaya Patra foundation, and a screening of the docu-drama Under One Sky.

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone

How great do these two look? Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone recently attended a Close Up event in association with their upcoming film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and I love the the laidback, summer-y vibe of both their outfits. Deepika‘s maxi in particular is really pretty, but then again I’m beginning to believe this lady can wear anything and come out looking good :)

Oh and of course, since the two were together for this event, they had to be asked about their past relationship. This time around, someone asked what it was like for them to shoot the kissing scene given that they’re no longer dating each other. Deepika put it pretty nicely, I think:

“We are comfortable with each other whether it’s an intimate scene, romantic scene, angry scene or action scene. The fact remains that we are comfortable working with each other and that’s why we signed the film.”

But in case you haven’t ‘lucked out’ of late, and have been screaming and yelling at everyone in sight and blaming it on the summer heat, here’s how to bring back the mojo and get shagadelic baby!

• At any given point in time through the date, always think with your head (yes, the one up there!) – that is, until you reach the bedroom door.

• Be polite in person and a bad boy in bed – nobody likes it the other way around.

• Be clear about what you want. If you’re looking for marriage, don’t begin the conversation by discussing your collection of fur-covered handcuffs.

• Smell good. Nobody wants to snuggle up to someone who smells like they’ve taken a dip in Sassoon Docks.

• Sex is not a bad word. Saying that you remind me of my mother/father might be.

• Stuff a sock in your pants if you have to. It’s all about giving the right perspective, remember.

• How you handle the morning after will decide your chances for round two. Yes, now might be a good time to buy that coffee machine!

• Moaning loudly in bed is fine, as long as you don’t start revealing your family history of arthritis at the same time.

From the beginning, we’ve been hearing that the crew of Highway has been shooting in some stunning places. Well, now there’s proof: the team just released images from their Kashmir schedule, which they recently returned from, and we’ve gotta say, the locations are gorgeous indeed! Kashmir is only one of the six states they’re shooting in, and for this one we hear they had to trek 2-3 kilometres daily just to get to the upper reaches of of the Aru valley, where they were set to film. Director Imtiaz Ali jokes that despite ODing on some of the local cuisine, the entire team managed to lose weight just because of these treks!

Says Imtiaz, “This has been a very different Kashmir for us. We trailed with the Bakarwals who are nomadic shepherds and with them saw the high slopes and streams of upper Himalayan mountains. This is a splendour that we had to trek for hours each day to bring to film. The entire unit lost weight despite gorging on splendid Kashmiri food. The civil authorities, police and the general people have been extraordinarily helpful as they always seem to be. There is so much that Kashmir has to offer, it is amazing. Yet you always feel you have only scratched the surface. Very excited about Kashmir in Highway.”

Also, how great does Alia look? Definitely a far cry from her super-glam Student of the Year. I gotta wonder, though, why we haven’t really seen much of Randeep Hooda at all yet. Hopefully that happens soon, because I’m really interested in seeing what sort of character he’s playing in this film.

Tuesday after work I hit up the Shootout at Wadala success bash at 212 in Santa Cruz. It was actually pretty hilarious because when I went up to Tusshar Kapoor and quite nicely asked him if I could take his picture, he brushed me off saying, “Later, I’m having a conversation right now…” Wow. Sorry dude, I forgot what a big star you are. My bad. Everyone else was super nice however :)

Friday - Pune to PJs

Needless to say, Friday morning was rough. Like I was texting my friends, there isn’t an emoticon green enough to describe how I felt. But I managed to make it to Pune to finish the final paper work to sell my flat. Felt all girl power myself as I sealed the deal with my left thumb print. Funnily enough, my fingerprints appear to have a little flower power of their own!

Shootout at Wadala has just completed its second week, and the film has had a good run so far at the box office.
