Late last night, actress and singer Priyanka Chopra posted the new promotional photo of her single, Exotic, which features international rapper, Pitbull.

In fact, she shot the video with him a while ago at the Coconut Grove in Florida. Here are some pix from the shoot which were posted to Facebook by Bollywood’s Biggest Fans Club:

From Sholay to Cinema Paradiso Anupama’s compilation is a labour of love and consists of films she says, “that I have loved, films that have spoken to me, films that have inspired me to keep watching films. Crêpes

Crêpes for breakfast! What a wonderful way to start your day. I love making this for our lazy weekend breakfast when I can savour each bite and admire this delicate little beauty!

Crêpes are a sort of dosa, only its made with all purpose flour (maida), eggs, milk, butter, sugar and salt. They are a snack and street food in France, and all the touristy areas of Paris are dotted with Crêperie serving freshly made crêpes with all sorts of toppings. You can typically spot a giant jar of Nutella, which paired with bananas, are by far the most popular choice.

Personally, I find the amount of Nutella they smear on each crêpe to be too much for my liking – it just gives me a sugar rush, and I feel full very quickly – which cannot be a good thing. Who, then, will try all the other patisseries, bakeries and all the goodies that they have?

Once I learnt that the locals like their crêpes simple – which just lemon and sugar, I gave it a try, and was hooked! Very simple, very elegant, and so tasty.

Crepes are so versatile, and very simple to make. I have only ever had them sweet, but it is wonderful with savoury fillings as well to make for a great lunch or dinner option, or just a snack.

I have shared the recipe I like to follow – it makes for very light crepes, so the count of crepes eaten does not matter ;) Also, I can go to town with my choice of toppings with each crepe.

Ingredients

1 cup (120 g) of All Purpose Flour (maida)
1 tbsp (13 g) granulated sugar
a pinch of salt
2 eggs, beaten well
1.5 cups (375 ml) of milk
0.5 cup (125 ml) of water
4 tbsp (60 ml) melted butter

Crêpes

Preparing the batter

In a large bowl, add the maida and pour the milk and water. Whisk it well so that there are no lumps. Add the sugar and salt.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Add the eggs to the flour mixture, and whisk again to ensure a smooth batter. Add in the melted butter.

Ideally we should let the batter sit for at least an hour in the fridge, or overnight. But normally, I can’t be bothered, and skip this step. Refrigerating helps relax the gluten formed by all that whisking, helping the crepes be a bit light and airy, so if you have planned properly, follow this step.

Cooking Method

Take a good non stick pan and put it on medium heat. Grease the pan a little with oil or butter. This is needed only for the first crepe you are cooking. The butter in the crepes batter and a good quality non stick pan are enough to ensure the crepes do not stick to the pan. I still had not had my morning coffee so went a ‘little’ (!) overboard with the amount of butter. But this was eaten by my son, so no worries there!

Take a ladle full of the batter, and pour it on to the heated pan. Quickly swirl it around so that there is a very thin layer of the batter on the pan. It should be as thin as a plain dosa.
When the top side has no more wet batter, and the edges are slightly browned, flip it over and cook on the other side for a few seconds.

My family likes it with nutella and bananas. I spread a very thin layer of nutella, and a few slices of banana. For me, I like the freshness of lemons, with powdered sugar, and maybe some fruits on the side.

They are such an impressive breakfast and dessert idea. I hope you give these a try.

MissMalini: Hi Shailja! So great talking to you! Tell me about your new film Walkaway…

Shailja Gupta: It was great talking to you too. It’s a comedy drama. This movie traces intersecting stories exploring different aspects of love and companionship, as four friends in New York struggle to find their way through the meanders of Indian matrimony. And the importance of unshakeable tradition while trying to fit into a contemporary society.

Exploring the subtleties of the Indian mega-institution of marriage, from the now-veiled urban dowry system to the overwhelming compromises demanded of a cross-cultural couple, the film weaves through the lives of four friends… who struggle to balance engrained values with modern environs in the fast-paced melting-pot that is New York.
I guess it’s probably the South-Asian male version of Sex and the City. Darius, Vinay, Shridhar and Soham – single, dating, engaged and married, strive to maintain some semblance of sanity while questioning themselves, their desires and choices, and the importance of unshakeable traditions.

MM: You mentioned it was inspired by real friends, can you tell us who they are and have the seen the film? What did they think?!

SG: Unfortunately can’t share the pictures of my friends. They will kill me! Quite a few instances are a mix of experiences. On a lighter note, quite a few times I would just sit and observe them while they all chat and reminisce and a few would tell me jokingly they would sue me if I use these, I did the smart thing, got them to invest in my film! Most of these friends were based in New York during that time, but now are quite widespread, London, Hongkong, Japan, Brussels, India and of course New York. They were also very sweet to have offered to let me shoot in their homes since i couldn’t afford to rent studio spaces to make a set etc. All of them have seen the film and it was very heartwarming coz they could relate to the characters.

MM: Why is it called Walkaway?

SG: I have always felt that in more or less every relationship a time comes when one has to make choices. These choices could always entail tough decisions one of which could be walking away from the current situation. In my film too, each couple comes face to face with difficult choice. Their decision to Walkaway from it or stay and fight for what they believe in is what I have tried to portray, hence the name “Walkaway”.

MM: How was the response to it in the US?

SG: I was faced with a very unique and unfortunate choice. Just a few days before the release, I was told to push my dates as 2 big Bollywood films decided to change their dates and I was left with no theatres. I either had a choice to wait for 6 months or was given a pre-Diwali/Halloween weekend when NO ONE goes to watch it. Unfortunately I couldn’t afford to wait, and knowing that it would be a bad business decision I went ahead because I needed the reviews to move forward and that is exactly what I did :)

MM: What is the hardest part of making a movie? And what is the most rewarding?

SG: Hardest part is the journey, some days fulfilling and some days I felt like breaking everything and anything that came my way. For me being a producer and director, managing funds and creativity, compromising one for the other at times, though if I was given a choice, I would do the whole journey all over again in a second!

No doubt appreciation and watching an idea take shape in form of scenes right in front of the eyes. I can never find the perfect words to describe when I saw the scenes come alive after all the post production finished. It was truly incredible.

MM: Is there some advice you’d like to give young filmmakers trying to break ground?

SG: Get the best producer and first AD. Don’t compromise on the cost for that. That is the key to running the whole film set. If you don’t have money, wait till you have enough to get the best of these two heads.

MM: You’ve worked up close and personal with the likes of Shah Rukh Khan via Red Chillies Entertainment, what has your biggest learning been? Also please tell us something you’ve observed about him!

SG: Work! Work! and Work hard! and then work some more… and that too with lot of passion and the results will follow. This is my biggest learning which I follow daily. More than observing its a lot of learning. It’s amazing to sit beside someone and actually get to observe the amount of knowledge one person can have. I have travelled a lot and met a lot of people nationally and internationally and rarely have I seen someone with such vast knowledge of so many subjects.

MM: We LOVE your digital art inspired by Bollywood and want to buy them ALL up for the MissMalini office, how did you decide to make them?

SG: Thank you! Just give me your office address :) One of the Sunday wintery mornings in New York, I was snuggled up at home and just surfing and reading news when I realised that people from all walks are celebrating the 100 years of Indian cinema. So I started doodling too on photoshop (yes, I don’t use paper! Instead my mecca, pretty much all Adobe products) and created my first piece of Mr. Bachchan.

I was planning to just put them up on my social media pages but my friends thought I could do more. Then I decided to convert this whole idea into a mammoth project and spent 8 months making 161 paintings.

I started with Hindi films because I grew up on them, but am now working on 60 more paintings encompassing Tamil, Telugu, Malyalam, Kannada.

One of the best parts of my job is reading mouthwatering travel reviews all day long (many of which were penned by the lovely MissMalini). Some are of places I remember fondly, others of spots which have long been on my bucket list, and some of destinations which weren’t previously on my radar. Either way, the result is a permanent state of wanderlust.

In this post I’ll share the top ten with you. Between you and me, I haven’t travelled to all four corners of the globe yet (just the three) – so I’m enlisting the help of some friends.

Triptease’s countdown of the top 10 must-visit places in the world  (5 cities, 5 natural wonders):

1. Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

(*Hehehehe* the title, I know. I couldn’t resist!) Did you know filmaker Karan Johar has knocked off 12 kilos and plans to lose more apparently for his acting debut?!

A source close to Karan reveals that he has regularly been taking time out to hit the gym for the last two-and-a-half months. “Hrithik Roshan’s trainer, Kris Gethin, has a team working under him. Karan has hired one of them to shed his extra weight. Apparently he put on a lot of weight during the making of Student Of The Year (2012), and he wants to get rid of it.”

Rumour has it that apart from wanting to be fitter, Kjo’s weight loss may also have something to do with his upcoming debut as a fullfledged actor! An industry insider says, “Karan is playing a negative role in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet. This will be his BIG on-screen debut and his role is important. All eyes will be on him. ”Recently, Karan even told us, ‘I have started training and working out to get really thin.’”

A friend of Suraj Pancholi narrated an incident to us from the sets of Ek Tha Tiger where he assisted Kabir Khan on the film. (As you know, Suraj had earlier assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the Hrithik Roshan starrer Guzaarish.)

Commenting on his closeness to Salman, my spy says there were many times Salman was smoking a cigarette and would always pass it on to Suraj (who was his Man Friday during the shoot), “Salman has this habit of giving his half-smoked cigarette to one person in particular on set before he goes into a shot. He would always give it to Suraj who would quietly hold on to it. Sometimes it would burn out in his hand and people on set would often joke about Suraj being Salman’s cigarette holder!”

OMG, the Bollywood A-List was out to dinner at Olive Bandra last night (coincidentally on the same night as Acquin Pais, Harpreet Baweja and Mona Juneja‘s Butter night frat party beer Olympics were in full swing!)

Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Kiran Rao, Karan Johar, Siddharth Malhotra and men’s designer Kunal Rawal were all at dinner together. What these pictures DON’T reveal is that Katrina Kaif was with them too (and looking gorgeous I might add!) But she chose to hang back till the rest of them left (with the paparazzi in tow) and then snuck out on her own with a bearded bodyguard! What a clever Kat.

Shruti Haasan

Actress Shruti Haasan seems twice as lucky than any other actress simply because she stars in two different movies but both, coincidentally, have the same name.

Both the films are completely different in terms of the story line and content, but while one is a Bollywood flick, the other is a South Telegu film.

And both the films are called Ramaiya Vastavaiya.

While the Hindi Ramaiya Vastavaiya is a love story and will see her donning the role of a shy village girl, the Telugu one is an action movie which will see her in the role of a fierce tom boy who is a social worker. While one similarity is that both the films are set in villages, a source say that the stories they tell are completely opposite as are the genres.

Actress Soha Ali Khan can be counted among the best dressed people in Bollywood. And that’s probably why she’s recently been appointed as the face of a new ethnic wear label – Kashish – at Shoppers Stop.

In an exclusive interview with Team MissMalini, Soha tells us just how important the desi look can be and why she plans to rock it this season.

Tell us about the Kashish Collection of ethnic wear?

I have recently been chosen as the Kashish brand ambassador and it is one of the in-house brands at Shoppers Stop. I was very excited because Shoppers Stop is a very well-known company and brand name and they have launched this new, slightly more premium, lifestyle brand. They have a range of beautiful clothes like shalwar suits, kurtis and sarees as well.

Personally, when it comes to Indian clothes, I wear a lot of sarees and I need to be educated in the style of shalwar suits. I want to wear them more because I think they look fabulous, especially anarkalis. In fact, Vikram Phadnis has designed a special line in this collection as well and I’m wearing one of his designs. So there is a lot to choose from.

What makes this collection different?

When you step into the store, there are many brands which you can buy. But when you want something for a slightly formal occasion, then you can shop at a very affordable budget over here. They’ve come up with a lot of new things like mixing and matching fabrics, experimenting with designs, bringing a bit of a maternity look to their outfits.

Vikram has teamed up beautifully contrasting colours – like lime green and purple, offset with a white dupatta, which you wouldn’t normally think of. So I think it makes a statement .

The collection also has traditional brocades, lots of anarkalis and my favourites – anarkalis in ivory with gold embroidery detailing which I think are stunning.

On what occasions do you wear Indian clothes?

I’m a bit bizarre when it comes to my sense of dressing and my choice of dressing since it’s usually mood-based. If I feel like wearing a saree, even if I’m not going anywhere particularly formal, then I wear one. I wear what I feel I look good in, or what compliments my mood.

But ever since I joined Bollywood, I realise that it’s important to dress for the occasion and over the past couple of years, I’ve paid more attention to what I’m wearing. When it comes to formal occasion, especially, I think you can make a wonderful statement with an Indian outfit.

Tell us about your upcoming film projects.

I want to to talk about War Chhod Na Yaar which releases on August 30^th and which I’m very excited about because it’s the first war satire. We’ve had films on India-Pakistan before but they’ve all been quite serious. This one is the furtherest thing from serious, which you can imagine. It’s got a wonderful cast like Sharman Joshi, Jaaved Jaafrey, Sanjay Mishra and I’m playing a journalist.

I have played a journalist before, but not quite like this one. It was great fun because I’m the only girl in the whole film because there a lots of Jawans and lots of army personnel and we shot in Bikaner in forty-five degrees in the summer but it was totally worth it.
