Vogue_Blogger_Badges_1-1Mumbai Glitterati is now gearing up for Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive ‘10 at the Grand Hyatt from September 17th-22nd. After announcing the 74 designers participating this time at a press conference earlier in the week, Lakme and IMG hosted a party at Olive, Mahalaxmi on Thursday to celebrate 11 years of fashion where all the pretty people turned up (I especially loved Sabina Chopra’s funky fitted abstract-print dress!) and Narendra Kumar Ahmed gave me the scoop on his Killer Nari line of denims. (I even got to break out my Shantanu & Nikhil number for the night.) I’m SO excited to bring you a sneak peak at everything that goes on behind-the-scenes at LFW and all the laughter and gossip from between-show cigarette breaks! For now though, take a look at how all the fashionistas deck up for cocktails with the rich and restless :) Read more…

Rocker Chic: Funky Female Concert Fashion!

Saba Azad

Anushka Manchanda

Anushka Manchanda

blog_miss_maliniYou gotta love the whole Indie music vibe that’s picking up big time in Mumbai. (Especially when some of the city’s most fashionable glitterati deck up for the do!) Ashutosh Phatak launched his new dance album, Petri Dish along with Arjun Vagale + Ash Roy (Jalebee Cartel) at Blue Frog on Friday. Apart from the sound and light extravaganza it was nearly impossible to tear your eyes away from some of his guest star hotties on stage including Anushka Manchanda (in funky crimped hair) from Shkabang, Monica Dogra from Shaa’ir + Func, Suman Sridhar from Sridhar/Thayil, Ashima Aiyer, Saba Azad (sporting fairytale fashion) and Vasudha Sharma (from the band Aasma). Take a cue kids, this is what we call “concert chic”!
Psst! Indie reporter Neysa Mendes’ concert review coming soon right here on missmalini.com! Read more…

Indie Music Reporter: Pentagram Release Their Own Web Series.

Pentagram shot by Ameet Mallapur. "This is one of my favourite profile images of an Indian band"

Pentagram shot by Ameet Mallapur. This is one of my favourite profile images of an Indian band.

indiemusicfilter-copyPentagram has just released PentaTV, the band’s own online show. Pentagram is easily one of the best live acts in the country, a lot due to the sheer energy they have on stage. They have no mercy though, if they’re working the stage, you’d better be jumping along as well. Sitting is strictly not allowed. I’m mostly soaked in sweat after a Pentagram gig. Gross? Yes. But such fun.
The band is letting you in on a little of their madness through their own series of webisodes that they will release on their site. The show will cover backstage antics, gigs, hanging out with the band and also follow them through recording their next album. The first episode gives you a glimpse of the band recording ‘Mental Zero’ which they’ve been playing live for a few months now. It also features on their new album which they’re calling ‘Bloodywood’. Gotta love the name! Read more…

Levi’s® Curve ID, Revolutionizes Denim Shopping for Women!

Ileana D’Cruz, Jacqueline Fernandez and Chitrangada Singh

Ileana D’Cruz, Jacqueline Fernandez and Chitrangada Singh

Levis_GWI_logoOMG girls I have GREAT news! If you’re anything like me you probably get super excited about the idea of shopping but end up extremely frustrated whenever you looking for denims because you have to try on like 50 pairs to find even one that fits you well. Which is why I was extremely impressed when my fit-expert Tusharika Rao took two-and-a-half seconds to hand me a pair of jeans to try on. I did and they fit perfectly! (See?!) So now I’m psyched. I know I’m a 25 Demi, and I kinda like the slim boot cut. So I plan to walk into the Levi’s store on Linking Road next weekend and shop up a storm since I already know what shape I am :)
That’s right it’s all about shape, not size. Read more…

Wow Pau! You’re Tall. 7′ NBA Star comes to Mumbai.

MissMalini and Pau Gasol

MissMalini and Pau Gasol

I’ve seriously never met anyone THIS tall in my life. (Like how I’m standing on my tippy-toes as if THAT’s gonna help?) Meet Pau Gasol. He’s the Spanish 7′ center and power forward for the current NBA champs, the LA Lakers and is in India as part of the NBA’s mission to grow its brand and make basketball the #2 sport here! Pau conducted clinics in Mumbai and Delhi this week – imparting his bball knowledge to aspiring Indian players. Akash Jain from the NBA (what a cool job btw) invited some of Mumbai’s elite to mingle with him over wine and Sushi earlier this week and Pau definitely got a birds eye view of Mumbai nightlife. Funnily enough Pau’s significant other wasn’t wearing heels. (I guess after your boy crosses 6′10″ inches you figure what’s the point?!) Oh and my buddy Rish Oberoi (the genius behind Paani Puri tees) came too. He even brought Pau a tee (in presumably XXL.) Oooh and Neetu Chandra was the nights token Bollywood belle. Apparently SHE plays basketball (who knew?!) and that’s how B-ball met Bollywood in B-Town. Boom. Read more…

blog_miss_maliniNarendra Kumar Ahmed and Harry Cheng of Maido India (also the “been there, done that guy”) announced a new partnership “to bring Japanese inspired designs to India, and the world”, over a quaint Japanese tea ceremony hosted in Mumbai at the Four Seasons Hotel on Monday. Didjya know? Narendra Kumar will open the upcoming Van Heusen India Men’s Week (VHIMW) in Delhi on August 27th at the Grand Hotel, Vasant Kunj. His show is entirely inspired and crafted with Japan in mind and I’m really hoping he makes some of these jackets for women soon as well, SO funky! MissMalini Rides a Bike on Tech Toyz!

MissMalini

MissMalini

I had totally forgot how much fun it is to bike around a city and am now seriously contemplating getting myself a snazzy cycle to explore Bandra on (in purple or something). What do you think? Check out Suresh Venkat steer us through another crackling episode of Tech Toyz while navigated the streets of Colaba. It’s true you know, you never forget how to ride a bike! Muscular memory or something :) The fact that I could do it 15 years since I last touched one should be ample proof. Right, now lets hope this applies to driving a stick-shift car too. While I fond out watch the rest of the show! Read more…
