Satya Paul teamed up with PCJ Jewellers to show their first demi couture collection. Literally translated this means half couture, and the idea is to make couture more accessible. Internationally designers like Mary Katrantzou and Haider Ackerman opt to show demi couture collections.
It’s been almost a year since Masaba Gupta was appointed Satya Paul’s fashion director and she is managing to marry the brands heritage with her own quirk. At 24, she is the youngest designer to show at Delhi Couture Week. She is obviously feeling very black and white right now as monochromatic dominated her line.
She x-rayed florals and showed that print could be couture. Tailcoat shararas, jumpsuit saris and gorgeous gowns all were a part of her collection.
Elegant laces added romance and men’s details like lapels and shirts juxtaposed this with androgyny. Embellishment was restrained. A mature collection for a 24 year old, it was a solid debut into couture. There were some issues with fit, but overall the collection was striking.
Jewellery ranged from statement polkis to dazzling diamonds, sometimes it seemed a little forced. You had to remember though this was a PCJ Jewellery show at PCJ Delhi Fashion Week.
Adding some star appeal to the bling were Arjun Kapoor with his uncle Anil Kapoor who took to the ramp for PCJ. They made for a more than handsome duo on the ramp.
