Rakhi Sawant
Rakhi Sawant

And just when we all thought we were safe Rakhi Sawant strikes again. (I suppose there’s some comfort in knowing that some people never change, also that a publicity stunt by any other name, is still a publicity stunt.)

I got a call sometime last week alerting me to this “major event” where a “very well known celebrity” was going to unveil a ground breaking hunt for love on TV (while I thought wait a minute I think I’ve seen this movie...)

As it turns out the “celebrity” is none other than the notorious Rakhi Sawant, and the event is (someone gag me with a spoon) her “earnest” attempt to find love on the wire. I kid you not, this is going to be a nationwide search to help Rakhi find her soul mate (Splitsvilla style.) All courtesy NDTV Imagine aptly titled “Rakhi Ka Swayamvar.” 15 prospective grooms will be vying for Rakhi’s (evidently volatile affections.) Over the duration of the show, the prospective bridegrooms will be brought together under one roof and be put through a series of tasks that will test their personality, character, physical fitness, talent, their compatibility with Rakhi  (and clearly their sanity.) All through the series, viewers will help Rakhi decide, by voting for or against the prospective bridegrooms. Reality television just got a little too (su)rreal.

You know what’s really tragic though? I’ll probably watch. (Reality TV junkies of the world are you with me?) It started with “Big Boss” and continues with (the infinitely better “Roadies” & “Splitsvilla”) and I confess even the likes of  “Sarkar” and the lamentable “Sitaron Ko Choona Hain” on Real TV (damn you Raghu) I’m addicted. I need my fix.
