Kareena Kapoor was supposed to leave for a month-long schedule of Rensil D’Silva’s film. But she opted for a sudden change of plan. It was Kareena’s mother, Babita Kapoor’s birthday yesterday and while mom (as all mom’s would) insisted that Kareena must not allow her work to suffer Kareena bolted from an ad shoot with Imtiaz Ali in Chandigarh to make it special postponing her and Saif Ali Khan’s trip to New York by a day to arrange a small family get-together over dinner at her swanky new place in Bandra, Mumbai. Kareena says, “It was just family for my Mom. That’s the way she likes it. That’s the way I wanted it to be. Yes, my dad was there too. And of course Saif. He’s very much part of the family.” Oh is he now? 🙂
Of course she was reluctant to reveal any more detail about the evening saying, “My mom is my world. I’d do anything with her. Postponing mine and Saif’s trip to NY was nothing. What did I give my mom? My time and my love. That’s all she wants.” (Incidentally, Saif had the cozy gathering on Monday night in splits with his jokes anecdotes and mimicry.) Considering how well he managed to blend with the Kapoors at the birthday party, it’s pretty evident that he’s the unofficial 2nd Kapoor son-in-law!
I’m also guessing she wanted a little comfort zone before her NY trip with the BF since she had to finish dubbing for “Kambakkht Ishq” and the woefully-stalled “Milenge Milenge” with ex squeeze Shahid Kapoor. Kareena says, “We’re all professionals here. For me it doesn’t matter who the leading man in “Milenge Milenge” is. For me what is important is that I made a commitment to two of my favourite people in the industry producer Boney Kapoor and director Satish Kaushik who’ve stood by me from the beginning of my career. How can I let them down? Boney wants a summer release for his film. I have to complete my dubbing before I leave.”
FYI This film is special because after “Jab We Met” this is the only time Kareena will be seen with Shahid Kapoor (especially for fans of the JWM pairing.)
P.S. I Googled some pictures from the Kapoor family album and found some super cute ones of “mom” from way back when! (Spot the Kapoor kiddo resemblance?)
