How cool is this? Michael Jackson would have been proud (speaking of which Luke Kenny is performing another tribute concert at Blue Frog this Wednesday and its free entry, see you there?) I came across this extraordinary movement thanks to the filmmaker Fahad Samar who sent me an email saying, “Just every now and again we get something over the net that takes your breath away.” Boy was he right. Playing for change aims to bring the world together through its most universal language. Music.
According to their website playingforchange.com, “Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world.”
Love it. I hear they have some plans to bring the project back to Chennai this year (they’ve done something back in 2006 in Dharamshala and Chennai before as well), the good news is I told the guys at Blue Frog and they seem pretty keen to connect with them and I think we’ve just about set the ball rolling on that one! So watch this space, you’ll be hearing them on my show on 94.3 Radio One and we’re hoping to set up a charity gig too!
Heal the world baby, lets make it a better place.
