Psst! This just in; Madhur Bhandarkar’s next release after Jail (which releases year-end) will focus on the drama behind-the-scenes at Bollywood award functions. The movie titled Awards (he likes to keep it simple you know) will be produced by Percept Picture Company at a budget of Rs. 40 crores. I’m told that Priyanka Chopra is in the running to play the lead (I guess that’s fair, considering she was Ashutosh Gowariker’s unarmed target at the IIFA awards earlier this year when after Priyanka Chopra won the best actress award for ‘Fashion’ Ashutosh Gowariker went up on the stage to collect the best director award for ‘Jodhaa Akbar.’ In his thank you speech, he remarked, “Priyanka I love you, but I don’t know how you got the award for Best Actress when Aishwarya was also nominated in the same category for Jodhaa Akbar.”

Best director: Ashutosh Gowarikar

Perhaps he realised he was humiliating Ms. Piggy (aka the star of his upcoming movie ‘What’s Your Rashee?’) so hastened to add, “…maybe it is because you are very hard-working and she is a natural.” Err not much better. Anyhow Priyanka remained calm (all that Miss India training musta kicking in) but skipped the after-event party in Abhishek-Aishwarya suite in order to avoid Ashutosh. Juicy.

“Awards” will also reveal “how certain award functions bear allegiance to certain camps and also how certain actors manipulate awards.” Certainly full drama in the making. The movie will involve incidents from recent award functions and probably Ashutosh’s verbal argument with host Sajid Khan. (Considering how much footage is based on Ashutosh I think they should just cast him as the lead, don’t you?)
