Aishwarya Rai in a Martin Scorsese film? Wow, this should be good (thank God she finally learnt how to act!) She’s even invited to dinner as his special guest this Sunday, oooh fancy! Apparently he loved her in buddy Sanjay Leela Bansali’s Devdas.
Psst! Scorsese is now working on restoring Uday Shankar’s classic dance-ballet film Kalpana.

Actually, this is kinda cool…

Many Indian filmmakers, including Sanjay Leela Bhansali, consider  Kalpana to be the ultimate cinematic dance extravaganza. The 1948  black-and-white classic is written and directed by Uday Shankar (Pandit  Ravi Shankar’s brother) and his wife Amala. There’s no full and complete print of Kalpana available in India. But now the World Film Foundation is going to take over the job of  making Kalpana viewable across the world. Actor-director Satish Kaushik,  who recently met Scorsese in Dubai, confirmed, “Martin Scorsese has  definite plans of restoring Uday Shankar’s Kalpana. I saw The Mummy, a  1969 Egyptian film that has been restored.” Cool eh? Whenever I see these people frozen in time (especially in black & white) I wonder what their lives were like. What they did for fun and since they were obviously “celebrities” of their time how similar or different they were to the lot we have now… I always wonder.
