I’m not the biggest romantic out there, but even I want some romance on Valentine’s Day. Nothing worse than expecting special something from your partner and nothing happening, yes we’ve all been there. It’s probably a little early to start planning now, but I decided to put together a little guide to romance for all the uninspired boyfriends, husbands and scorned lovers out there! Girls pass this post around, start dropping now; lord knows how thick some boys can be!

1. 14 Days to Valentine’s Day

Here is a great idea for those who have a lot of ‘romance’ catching up to do. Countdown to Valentine’s Day by doing something special each day. Get her or him a card on one day, write a love letter, send flowers, make dinner, there are a ton of things you can do to count down. Plus it’ll give you brownie points for the rest of the year!

2. Hide and Seek

On Valentine’s Day, or rather the day before, hide gifts around the house that you’re loved one usually goes to. For example, putting a rose in the tooth brush holder or putting a card near the coffee maker. Be creative or have with them and make them hunt for it like a treasure hunt.

3. Surprise Element

There is nothing wrong with a bit of mischief. Why not pretend to be out of town or have forgotten all about Valentine’s Day and then surprise them by doing something special. Your partner will hate you but at the end of the day it’ll all be worth it. Try booking a table at his/her favorite restaurant or a picnic on the terrace (most of our cities have terrible gardens, sorry Nana Nani parks).

4. Gadget Love

For those who love their gadgets, why not buy them an iPod and load it up with their favourite songs. Or get them a camera and load all your pictures together on it. This is a great way to personalize your gift and also making them extremely happy with their new toy!

5. Lost Jewelry

When you have the time try and steal away your partner’s favourite piece of jewelry or watch. Have it inscribed with something cute like a private joke or memory you’ll both cherish. Present it to them on Valentine’s Day, they’ll love the surprise, but also love the fact they got their Jewelry back!
