Here are some of the stand out collections from Day 2 at Lakmé Fashion Week. I unfortunately didn’t have my digicam with me for the first show, where emerging designers Jelin George, Sabbah Sharma and Pam & Arch London showcased. But stay tuned for a video byte from Jelin and Sabbah at the end of the chaotic week!

Little Shilpa

Fashion Film, Artificial Flowers, Plastic Lips (again), White school girl uniforms (Again), Random Choreography
Although I loved the dark energy and music of the show, I really wanted more from Little Shilpa, something really new and exciting. This felt a bit to forced and  lost in translation.

Bright Contrasting Colours, Crush Silk Fabric, Open-Back (same as last collection), Voluminous Silhouettes, Funky Shoes/Hats
The collection was very high energy and fun, she stayed away from heavy print and focused on block colours (huge trend for s/r2011). Showed a good growth in design from her first show, but she should stop using the same open-back pattern!

Shivan & Narresh

Block Colours, Perfect Summer Pants, Statement Jewellery, Modern, Contemporary, Expected.
Expectations from Shivan & Narresh are always high for Summer/resort and this time they did meet those expectations. However I’m still waiting for the impact that their first collection had. The strength of this collection lies in their impeccable ability to put colours and proportions together that are appealing for a woman. Having said that, I love their clothes, and felt über-chic and comfortable in them, plus they do know how to do summer/resort (btw they invented a bikini sari!)

Manish Malhotra

First row – Bollywood, Voluminous Lehengas, Muted pastels, Embroidery, Interesting Dupatta Drapes, Nothing New.
For summer I expected lighter looking clothes from Manish, something that woman could actually have fun in. These long voluminous garments are gorgeous but heavy even if you’re thinking of going for a summer wedding. Again his collections are bordering on wedding, and would love a change in his approach to Summer/Resort.
