The Urban Chic Bride
The Urban Chic Bride

When Amitabh Bachchan decides to inaugurate a jewelry store, there is no questioning its grandeur. Amidst firecrackers and dazzling LED lights, the largest jewelry store in Mumbai, the new Tanishq in Andheri was unveiled. Aside from attractive inaugural discounts there was a unique fashion show titled ‘Brides of India’ choreographed by the lovely Achala Sachdeva. As you step into this enormous fantasy world of jewels spread across two levels, you lose yourself in the world of chandeliers and solitaries!

The theme of brides was perfect because wedding jewelry is the flavor of the season! The show was centered around seven brides namely The Punjabi, Gujarati, Maharashtrian, Muslim, Tamil, Bengali and the urban Chic Bride (my personal favorite). There were several collections which caught my fantasy. One of the newest collections is the Peshkash-e- Nizam collection. It aims to recreate the Mughal era with its intrinsic craftsmanship, royal designs and the use of emeralds. I loved the chandelier earrings (so royal!) Another interesting collection on the second level is the Taj collection. This range had interesting finger rings, bracelets and the pendants had ethno-contemporary work on both sides (ideal fashion accessory). The perfectly cut rubies and diamonds sure looked stunning enough to make a style statement.

On speaking to jewelry designers at the launch, I discovered that big rocks are definitely in this season. The look of the moment has bold designs that are a blend of craftsmanship and detailing but stick to contemporary forms and silhouettes. The mantra to create lust-worthy pieces is to make sure they are versatile. Rubies, emeralds, platinum, diamonds and especially solitaires seemed to emerge as hot favorites. The store manager feels that rose cut and uncut diamonds featuring in the “True diamonds collection” will help women express their personality with elan. Despite the escalating prices, gold jewelery remains a favorite for weddings. The neo-classical blend of modern and traditional found in Tanishq will appeal to younger women as well. The timeless appeal of the designs and the aura created by the enormous and compelling new store makes me really hope that Tanishq lives up to the promise of impeccable quality for us to cherish in the years to come!
