There are some of us who strive to be fashionable and then there are those who wake up in the morning and just are. Daphne Guinness is one of those who lives, breathes and even bleeds (one photo shoot made her eye bleed!) fashion. In the fashion world, Daphne is the maestro to all things fashion, literally at times conducting her audiences (designers, photographers and journalists) on 8 inch platform shoes with no heels. She is the ultimate muse (something she hates to be called), her very being oozes all things avant garde and no she is not Lady Gaga’s Mother. This post is not a biography of who she is but rather a look at her and her fashion!
Daphne Guinness has a distinct style, it’s as if every day is a real life photo shoot. If you look at the pictures above, one set is from her photo-shoots and the other set is her being candid. Both look as if she were getting ready to be on the cover of some fashion magazine. If we had to describe her style some of the words would be – monochrome, statement shoes, black hair streaks, structured, androgynous etc. These are just some words that first come to mind. The next few words might be -What does Daphne Guinness do? That’s something people have been asking (and stopped) for years. Her designation now is muse extraordinaire in my opinion. Unlike other celebrities who only wear the clothes, Daphne buys them. That’s probably because she can actually afford it. After her reported 20 million pound divorce settlement from Spyros Niarchos, a juggernaut in the shipping dynasty; she packed things up with her 3 kids and became what we can see today – fashion’s love child.
So what do you need to be the next Daphne Guiness? Here are some tips on grabbing her style.
Black or White
Daphne is usually always in shades of black or white, it’s only on the rare occasions that she’ll opt for colour. Even her hair is a play on white and black. If Coco Chanel were alive she’d no doubt have many things to say to Daphne about excessive dressing but she would be thrilled at her colour choices.
The Not so Costume Jewellery
It’s hard to spot it most of the jewellery she wears is real. Most of the time it is but in some interviews she’s admitted that most people can’t tell the difference with what is plastic and whats real. She’s very petite so these larger than life jewellery makes a bigger statement than would on most people.
The Shoes
When everyone else was wearing comfortable flats, Daphne would go to sex shops to buy her S&M shoes that would be the X factor to any outfit. She’s been wearing these walking marvels for years now long before the Japanese bought them to our Lakme Fashion Week. Above are some of my favourites seen on Miss Guiness.
