It feels like Mother’s day is here way too soon this time. And considering it’s this Sunday (wake up), I think it’s time we do a little quick fix guide to make you decide on that special gesture or present that will make the most important woman in your life feel like a dream. I know that a lot of stuffed animal and card selling companies are going to use this day for a multitude of marketing gimmicks, but you don’t always have to do the predictable. This time around we help you plan that special unforgettable day for Mommy dearest without feeling ripped off!

A home-cooked meal says you care…

Nothing can be more relaxing for mommies than to know that they have no household chores to do and can pamper themselves to a meal specially cooked by their dear ones. So, get those chef’s hats on, pull out those recipe books you never got around to reading and whip up a special something (even an easy pasta would do) to add that zing to her day. In the comfort of your home and with the special ingredient of love, you can never go too wrong.

An instant home pampering session!

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. Although it would be nice to send your mom for a special head massage or hair spa session at your nearest hair salon or spa but if that sounds too boring and something you already had planned for her birthday or anniversary, then you can skip the spa price nightmares with our custom made home pedicure. Let her soak in her feet in a nice relaxing tub with a peppermint foot soak (Bodyshop and Nature’s Co. do a great one). Follow this up, with a relaxing massage with a nail and cuticle moisturizing foot cream. And finally pick her favorite shade of nail paint to add color to those tired feet that desperately need a makeover. Or better still, give her a nice head massage with some relaxing aroma oils and let her soak in the deep sense of calm.

A retro rewind surprise. Now, we all know that mommies love to watch their favorite old movies over and over again. They also love a little music therapy where they like to unwind with their dearly loved songs from the past. Create a special playlist on your iPod or laptop with all her favourite tracks and let the music induce a sunny state of mind. Or, rent her favourite DVDs so she can relive childhood memories with Sound of Music, laugh at old jokes in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or relive an old romance in Roman HolidayIf she’s into Hindi classics make sure you get your hands on the movies she secretly craves to watch.

Say it with cupcakes and a sugar fix!

Get her a delightful cupcake with chocolate hearts or pink marzipan icing. Don’t know if she’s into those? Then, get an instant mix and bake some brownies for her (yummy) or if that’s too much work you can make her an Oreo cookie milkshake with oodles of chocolate sauce (pure indulgence).

Make her something special…

On this special day for mums, there really is no better way to express your love and appreciation than with a homemade gift from the heart. So, bring out the artist in you and make her a card or write her a little letter. Pair it with a bunch of roses expressing gratitude for all the great things that make her top mom. In the evening, take her for a drive or a walk on the beach (my personal pick) and tell her that you value all the selfless sacrifices she always makes.

You should totally bear in mind that that Mother’s Day is about making your Mom feel loved and it doesn’t always have to be something material that brings a smile to her face. Take your cue from our guide and make the day unforgettable for your first love.
