The mixed response that Vikram Bhatt’s Haunted 3D has received at the box office does not seem to deter movie-makers just yet. The 3D technology has become the newest trend Bollywood is embracing.

After Haunted tried to scare us with spine chilling 3D Special effects, Shirish Kunder’s next venture, Joker is also going to be screened in 3D. Traditionally, there wasn’t a huge market for such movies in the Indian subcontinent. However, with the advent of new age animation movies from Hollywood fascinating us, it looks like it’s soon going to become the hottest thing.

This time around it’s the Khan brothers, Sohail and Salman Khan who are considering making their next jungle adventure titled Sher Khan, a 3D extravaganza. Now, the buzz is that Sohail is very excited about the use of this technology and that it was all his idea. Sohail also spoke about how it is way too soon to talk about the movie as it is still in it’s early scripting stage.Salman Khan with his washboard abs would make a great 3D Tarzan but he has clarified that he isn’t going to be playing that character. He also spoke to the media expressing his apprehension as he feels it is a huge challenge to make a film with stereoscopic 3 D content ensuring impeccable standards. He also discussed how he wasn’t sure about the market for such movies. (Hmm…) Well, if we have our shirtless Salman Bhai hanging from treetops in a jungle adventure, we really don’t have to worry about drawing in the crowds.

I love 3D movies because they always manage to thrill and

make us feel like a part of the action

. The success of Joker 3D which will be India’s first generation stereoscopic venture will help us predict the future of such movies in India. Also, it is going to be exceedingly difficult to be able to match up to the standards of films like James Cameron’s Avatar because Hollywood has achieved several breakthroughs in 3D cinematic technology creating breathtaking visuals. When we look back at the rebirth of 3D cinema, a lot of my favorite movies in the last decade like Shrek and Alice in Wonderland were perfected with the use of 3D imagery. It is really exciting to see several ambitious B town projects being announced in 3D. Totally getting excited about the 3D movie experience taking over Bollywood.
