Your Working Girl’s Survival Kit might help you find your way back to  the basics of feeling fresh  and new after a long day at work, but what  about when you need to go from subtle to sultry in a dash? Have no fear;  a guideline to an On-The-Fly Smokey Eye is here! A little intimidated  by the thought of a smokey eye?  I must admit dark colors scare the  blush off of me too, but you too can make a masterpiece out of these 5  steps for an On-The-Fly Smokey Eye.

What you will need:

Eye Primer – As you learned in ‘The Product Project’, I am not loyal to any one type of primer. Feel free to recommend any you swear by!

Three different eyeshadow shades – Light, Medium and Dark. I prefer a beautiful bronze palette called Starry Eyed Baked Shadow by Lorac as it is travel friendly.  Any range of silver, purple, and navy also work wonderfully.

Eyeliner – I couldn’t draw a straight line if my life depended on it, so I stay far away from eyeliner. If I am feeling extra lucky in the evening, I will try a bit of dark brown waterproof liner on my waterline.

Eyeshadow brush, finger and cotton swab – Pick your poison for blending.

How to Get Your On-The-Fly Smokey Eye:

1. Prep your lid by adding a thin layer of primer. Allow this to fully dry before you start.

2. Using your tool of choice, I prefer my finger, and your medium shade of shadow cover your lid from lash line to just above your crease.

3. Using your darkest color, carefully blend from lash-line to crease on the outer half of your eyelid. Blending is the key to creating a soft, classy smokey eye.

4. With a steady hand, apply eyeliner in short strokes as well as your waterline on your lower lashes.

5. Highlight the inner corners of your eye and brow bone with the lightest color… and Voila, a quick, sultry eye!

5.5. Depending on how well your mascara holds, I would suggest a fresh coat or two just for good measure.

Tips:

1. Keep all other makeup minimal and natural looking. Avoid lip color other than nude.

2. Use a cotton swab to clean up any eyeliner, shadow or mascara muck ups.

3. Dust translucent powder on your cheeks before you begin to ensure your eyeshadow does not become you new blush color. Don’t forget to wipe it away after your smokey eye is complete.

4. Invest in an eyelash curler. I swear by my Shu Uemura curler! It is a great tool to use with or without mascara.

5. Remember to keep blending!

Now get to smokin’ those eyes out! xx
