In the last Stardust (with Prateik Babbar and a really bad hairstyle on the cover) an article on Bipasha Basu came short of saying her Bollywood career was over. I found it a tad mean-spirited, but it’s true Bipasha has hit a rough patch. With no hit films in 2010, and in 2011, Dum Maaro Dum opened to mixed reviews, but her personal life has made more headlines.
First, she twittered a picture of two girls knotting her boots that sparked a controversy, while she maintained that the picture was in good fun, the public was outraged and she deleted that post. Then came the John Abraham breakup. More recently, the Amar Singh tape scandal has dragged in Bipasha’s name into the mess. I was disappointed when she twittered those pictures, but I’m surprised she’s implicated in the Amar Singh scandal. I’ve heard the tapes, it doesn’t sound like her, and a few of her Bollywood peers agree.
Career-wise she’s filming Players with Abhishek Bachan and Neil Nithin Mukesh and has Singularity, with Josh Hartnett. Players may be another Dum Maaro Dum, a glossy multi-starrer that fails to grab audiences (it seems that traditional masala films are back), and from what I’ve read about Singularity, it seems it would be more visual than story oriented.
