It’s summer, and although short clothes are often associated with the heat, I urge you to try a maxi length. Especially when it comes to dresses, a maxi dress is the ultimate in laid back cool for the summer. You can take these dresses from day to night effortlessly, just remember to chose a dress with your body shape in mind. Here is a guide to what style of maxi dress will suit your body type, I focused on the most common Indian body type – the busty, the hour glass and the pear.

Busty women, should opt for V-necks with a wider strap and a waist definition.  V necks are the best for big busts as it doesn’t stifle them and make them shapeless, wear a little tank underneath if you don’t want too much cleavage on display. The wide strap is to hide your bra strap and acts as extra hold. An accentuated waist will give your body a shape. Stay away from shapeless maxi’s as it’ll hang from your bust and make you look larger than you are.

I love the hour glass shape, and would show it off any chance I get. You can get away with most styles of maxi dresses especially the types that enhance your waist. Try out fitted razor back maxi’s dresses, layer it with a sweater and a cami for a comfort sporty look. If you want to look more lean and stray away form your curves, then choose a slight a-line over straight figure hugging styles.

The maxi dress is most forgiving for this body type, but it’s easy to accentuate your wide hips if you do it wrong. Remember to stay away from gathers, ruffles, pleats etc on the bottom half of your dress. Keep all the detailing to the top half. Stay away from strapless options as it’ll accentuate your small shoulders, the trick is to make shoulders look wider to balance out the hip. Maxi dresses with an empire line is perfect for this body shape.
