Today was a relief from the relentless sunshine we’ve been seeing, with the cloudy skies and the windy clime, but the bright sunshine is here to stay for a while folks! The top 3 must haves while stepping out in the sun?

3. Sunscreen, lots of it (preferably SPF 35 and higher)

2. A chic turbanesque headwrap/hat

1. Sunnies, Shades, Glares, Sunglasses, Peepers. Call them what you must, they’re on the top of our list!

And they’re having a comeback of sorts in all shapes and sizes, mostly fun and sometimes basic. Here’s a look at some of the shapes that are setting trends this summer.

The Classic Aviators

Earns the top spot due to on the popularity it continues to hold. One style that never needs to make a comeback because it’s never going to leave! In fact there’s an entire site dedicated to people wearing aviators, which is worth a look. The iconic moments would be Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise in Top Gun, Stallone in Cobra and To Live and Die in L.A., Audrey Hepburn, Jonathon Rhys-Meyers, Kate Bosworth, Kate Hudson, Vanessa Hudgens, Nicole Ritchie and Jennifer Aniston, have all been spotted in their favorite Aviators on-screen. Closer home of course, Salman Khan and his posse in Dabangg made the iconic eye-wear quite a sensation. My personal favourite would be the Mercury Aviators with the gold rims or a tinted brown classic Aviator.

The 60’s with all their rebellion had a mascot in the cool plastic framed eye-wear. Bob Dylan wore them, Paul McCartney wore them, George Harrison wore them, Ringo Star wore them and yes, John Lennon wore them too (though he mostly wore round beatnik rose frames.)

These had a comeback in 2010 worldwide with floral frames, printed frames, frames with maps on them, name it and you could possess it! A popular example was the video to Mike Posner’s very catchy song Cooler than me.

Lady Gaga was also spotted on various occasions in them. Other Wayfarer – inspired sunglasses included Oliver Peoples “Hollis”, REM Eyewear’s “Converse”, and various designs in Juicy Couture, Hugo Boss, Kate Spade, and Marc Jacobs.

Today available in a variety of colours, there’s one Wayfarer for every cool dress in your wardrobe. I have known people who swear by their Wayfarers as the trustiest eye-wear around.

Now coming to the fun retro shapes that are making summer look so cool.

Round shapes, both small and bigger styles, rolled into the picture recently, and now they’re center stage. The cat-eye shape is also terribly cool. Choose your pick, and have fun in the sun!
