MissMalini: “Be Human. Everybody, no matter what they do for a living will connect instantly with the things they are passionate about. Find that emotional trigger for your brand and you’re golden*!”

Teenage dreams in a teenage circus
Running around like a clown on purpose
We are not what you think we are
We are golden, we are golden.
– Mika, We Are Golden

Psst! MissMalini says: This very gyaan-y line of mine reminded me of a Mika song that blew my mind some time ago 🙂

It had hardly been a couple of days to MissMalini speaking at the ArtistAloud.com #indiemeet and she was going to speak again at the DigitalVidya Social Media Bootcamp. Although the topic of discussion was pretty much the same, this time around MissMalini was speaking to a corporate gathering as opposed to budding musicians. Mindful of her audience, she spoke about brand creation, using social media to leverage a brand and interacting with the target audience. From her own experience, she recounted partnering with Narendra Kumar Ahmed for the launch of his prêt line. Instead of launching the prêt line via traditional media, MissMalini made it an interactive affair. She and her friends went over to Nari’s flagship store, tried on a dress of their choice, let Jean Claude Biguine styled their looks while they sipped on wine! They posed for the shutterbugs and the pictures were put up on MissMalini.com Viewers voted for the look they found best and the girl got to keep the dress. She mentioned the Cadbury Bournville’s “have you earned it” campaign and the shift in perception of dark chocolate. She even doled out twitter tips and suggestions on how to handle grievances on Facebook!

A question-answer session followed. A lot of interesting questions came her way and she offered easy solutions. A member of the DigitalVidya team itself wanted to know which voice to use for their twitter handle: @mydigitalvidya. MissMalini suggested giving the brand a unique voice which other team members can relate to as well and creating an additional personal twiiter handle where the person can shine through. Someone else enquired on the probable causes of disparity in numbers of followers for their company’s blog and facebook page. MissMalini suggested updating the facebook page regularly and making it visually opening. From security on social media to monetizing, everything was discussed.
