PUMA‘s Pimp Your Sole a unique initiative by PUMA to encourage creative expression pulled in a large amount of creative  talent last year. It invited artists in Mumbai to drop in their designs  at The PUMA Store on Linking Road on the 13th and 14th of August, 2010. Over 100 artists submitted their work and these were  judged by more than 1.5 million PUMA fans on PUMA’s Facebook page. The  five most voted designs are now part of a limited edition flip-flop  range and are available at select PUMA retail stores across the country.

This season, PUMA  launched a spunky new range of flip-flops, as a result of Pimp Your Sole, An award winning campaign, Pimp Your Sole was held last August and was collaboration between the brand and Mumbai’s creative community, giving them a platform to display their artistry on a larger than life canvas.

The flip flops were designed by:

Girija Naiksattam from Mumbai who describes herself as a digital disco dancer, copywriter, compulsive doodler, wall painter, shoe collector and someone who is in love with colour.

Brother sister duo Zainali and Azra Jetha from Mumbai who have always had the kicks for art and simply love to paint.

Duncan Viegas, a Goa based highly successful tattoo artist. Drawing, painting and sketching have interested him ever since he was a little kid. He didn’t have any formal training in art except when he was preparing for his elementary and intermediate art exams. His influences in art are varied and has just started dabbling with charcoal.

Vandhana Ranjan Swamy, a 24 year old writer from Mumbai who works on a variety of materials and uses a variety of mediums. Her favorite style is line drawings and doodles with touches of colour.

Narendra Kumar was seen encouraging the young talent.

“PUMA has always been a creative brand as it has always enjoyed challenger status. Hence it was only natural for us to collaborate with talented individuals in the city. While other brands may tie up with established artists, it was a conscious desire for us to co-create this range with street artists, doodlers, students and just about anybody with a creative bone in their body”, says Rajiv Mehta, MD PUMA India.
