Being a little fashion crazy I just had to walk down the Fashion Walk of Fame (secretly hoping one day I get there!). So, as I stared at Parsons New School for Design (dreaming of being on Project Runway), I prepared myself for another long day walking and some serious retail therapy. Plus I really needed to walk, as I had made reservations at Serendipity that night and was getting ready to load on the calories!

Absolutely no Desi girl can leave NY without a stop at Saks, Macy, Bloomingdales and Barney’s. It’s a law, and it can’t be refuted! Now I’m not saying you have to go crazy and buy everything you see, but it’s definitely an experience. Personally I felt that Saks is a designer’s dream, each designer has their own space with their own specialized sales person, what more could a designer ask for? I was at a complete lost for words the moment I headed to the shoe department and saw all those gorgeous heels (and even flats!).
Here is a tip: wait for the SALES! It’s still expensive but worth the big price drop since you are buying designer.

Searching for Vintage?

Soho and the Flea markets
Soho and the Flea markets

My search for great vintage is always top on my list and I was hell bent on finding some in NY. There are many vintage stores all around the city, but I would suggest going to SOHO which is an uber chic place to hang out and abundant with shops to satiate any budget. From road side vendors to Chanel on the corner take your pic. I lucked out at the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market located on West 25th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue, open 9AM – 5PM, every Saturday & Sunday all year long. I got a very Phoebe Philo-esque handbag with a silk scarf included, what struck me was the interesting clasp and the feel of the leather.

Serendipity for Real!

Serendipity

My friend Krishna and I being a little starved for romance, decided to go to Serendipity and try our luck at finding our John Cusacks. But, before I start to talk to you about the ultimate ‘Aww” moment here is a tip. Normally at Serendipity there is at least a 2 hour waiting, so do like we did and reserve a table 2-3 days in advance. Now back to that moment! Seated on two separate tables were two people (a guy and a girl). Both ordered the Frozen Hot chocolate and after a while began talking to each across their tables. Secretly hoping they would sit together we sat there watching this story unfold. The waiter apparently was watching too and asked if they’d like to sit on one table, saying that there were people waiting that needed tables! Yes it was an AWWW moment as they both agreed and sat together. *sigh*

Psst! keep checking MissMalini.com for the MissMalini spotting moment at Serendipity! Coming Soon!
