The royals enjoyed a family outing at the Epsom Derby, cheering on the Queen’s horse Carlton House.

The royal family

Prince William made an appearance with his new bride on his arm and his brother at his side. Both wore top hats and tails while the Duchess of Cambridge, wore a cream jacket and skirt with a brown hat and the Queen was resplendent in a fuchsia outfit with a matching hat.Her wedding ring was proudly on display as she clutched a handbag to her waist.

They could be seen cheering on their favourites from the royal box with Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.Although captured looking disappointed when her horse did not win, the Queen has announced next year’s race will be central to her golden jubilee celebrations.

Carlton House, which was the 5-2 favourite, finished third, to the obvious disappointment of the Queen. The Derby is the only one of the five Classics that the Queen has never won as an owner.

Carlton House may have been sent off the 5-2 favourite and may have had 100,000 racegoers and the whole nation willing him home for the Queen but it was a first French winner Pour Moi who took home the prize.

I couldn’t help but add this rather funny picture doing the rounds as a royal wedding recap:
