Rani and Vivek in Saathiya

Hi MissMalini Peeps, I’m continuing in this series with on-screen couples who have paired up only once in successful films.

Jodi #1: Rani Mukherji and Vivek Oberoi

I loved Saathiya.  Sure, the story was not ground-breaking.  But it was a cute movie, due to the chemistry between the leads, Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukherjee.  Vivek Oberoi was coming off his debut success in Company (like Ranveer Singh these days), and Rani’s career was quite sore, but their pairing was a hit, with the film being acclaimed critically and financially.  But, the off-screen drama was pretty good too, with Rani and Vivek reportedly becoming close during the shoot, but then he goes out with Aishwariya Rai, her best friend at the time, leading to a rift between Rani and Vivek/Ash and then Rani found another good screen partner in Abhishek Bachan…. so much gossip resulted from this! Vivek has said on Koffee with Karan that he would like to work with Rani again, but I doubt that’ll happen.

Jodi #2: Arjan Bajwa and Priyanka Chopra

Fashion was unique as it had both financial and critical success.  I love that it was a female-driven film, a rarity in Bollywood.  While Priyanka Chopra proved she’s more than a pretty face in this film, I always feel her some of her on-screen pairings are sub-par.  For instance, her recent coupling with Ranbir Kapoor in Anjaana Anjaani (PS:I love that song from Yuva) fell flat, to me anyways.  However, she did make a good on-screen pair with Arjan Bajwa in Fashion.  These two really need to be in another movie with each other!

Jodi #3: Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala

Shah Rukh and Manisha
Shah Rukh and Manisha

I already discussed my appreciation for Manisha Koirala, but her  pairing with Shah Rukh Khan in Dil Se was amazing.  He played the typical filmi leading man in love, but so much better in comparison to his roles in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (no offense Karan!)  While everyone loves Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan on-screen, his pairing with Manisha Koirala was so intense, perfect for the story in the film.  This was one of Shah Rukh‘s best performances (along with Chak De!) But I’m afraid we’ll never see these two on-screen again, as Shah Rukh is often paired with the younger lot of actresses these days.

MissMalini readers, which couple that you’ve seen on-screen only once should reunite for another project?
