Think colourful. Think bright. Think kitsch. Think celebration of all things Indian. Think Chumbak!

Chumbak was started by Bangalore belles Shubra Chadda and Alicia Crescencia Souza, borne primarily out of their love of traveling and of collecting souvenirs. They noticed a lack of cool, Indian knick-knacks that the tourists could take back home and the idea of Chumbak struck. But soon their cool, funny fare found favour amongst the young, contemporary Indians who liked to own and proudly flaunt these very quirky and essentially very Indian designs.

It is almost a reflection of how as a nation instead of being embarrassed of our quirks and idiosyncrasies, we have grown to love and accept them.

The young Chumbak team has gone beyond the flagship fridge magnets and now have t-shirts, key chains, photo frames, the newly introduced flip flops and even boxers. The below capture is one of my favourites. I have this picture in my head of dressing up my boy in these matchy-matchy “Funky Auto” boxers and flip flops and going out for a long drive on a rainy evening. Naughty me! 😉

You can buy their stuff online or walk into one of the many stores in the city that retail their goodies. You can get the list at www.chumbak.in.

We at MissMalini really dig their fun and happy creations and how they have made the small but unique parts of our everyday lives cool. Specially with the overcast weather outside we recommend you buy a little bit of Chumbak right away to infuse some much needed colour and cheer into your lives and homes. Start with the flip flops as you splash around puddles!
